This really is on the list of items that you must do! We parked in Nazare (in the free parking lot) and walked to the Funicular. We purchased return tickets for €4 for adults and €3.50 for children. I’m not sure if more is charged in high season as I’ve seen reviews with lower prices, but the prices above is what we paid.

Please note that when we visited in Aug 2022 face masks were still mandatory! We forgot ours so went to the mini market across the way and picked them up for 50c each.

Most passengers can sit during the ride although there are some standing passengers. There are facilities for wheelchairs. There are boxes for dogs and cats.

The view is simply breathtaking!

You can spend the day in Sitio. Between shopping, eating and seeing the sites, it’s a nice outing.

Note that we saw the queue to go up to Sitio at around 18h30 was about 1 hour.

I am not sure whether it’s fair to say that this place is underrated purely because it’s not in a big city, but this is one of the best funiculars / cable cars around.

The views are simply spectacular and are on par with some of the most iconic teams / funiculars - such as the Peak Tram in Hong Kong.

Even if you are not staying in Nazere overnight, it would still be worth it to make sure you check this off your list on your day trip.

The best way to go from the beach to the beautiful top view. The Nazare Fenicular is an essential attraction when visiting the city and a very useful way as the slope is steep. There are three ways to get to the top of Nazare, a fenicular, a car and a path for the adventurous who want to do it on foot. The fenicular resembles a small railway car and the ride is really fun. The journey takes just over 2 minutes and the fenicular leaves every 10 minutes. Whoever goes to Nazare should not miss this opportunity.

Nazare Funicular is like any other Funicular. You only save a short hike, but the ride isn't too costly. If you've done a funicular ride before and don't mind hiking you could save your money. If you don't want to walk or haven't done a funicular ride before I would recommend it. The view at the top is as great regardless of how you get there.

You have to take this ride to get to Sitio, the town on the falade above Nazare. Get the return ticket, about 4 euros and enjoy the technology, the ride, the people you're with. It really is fun. It was built in the late 1800’s by a follower of Gustave Eiffel, the guy who built the tower. It has been updated and is safe. Check out the lovely chrome hand railings at the top, it is a work of art.

Nazaré funicular is a fast and easy way to go from the beach to the top view. Have a trips every 10 minutes and the journey takes around 2 minutes. Whoever goes to the Nazaré should not miss this opportunity to see a fantastic top view.

However it is regrettable that in covid time, there is no limit of capacity, nor distance.

Well worth a visit to the top as great views to be had over the town and beach as well as surf beach. Its worth the value at 2.9E for the return trip every 15 minutes. This seems to be for local use as well as tourists.

We used the funicular to get up to Forte de Sao Miguel. Round trip is a very affordable 4 Euros. That form of transportation is definitely something you don't have every day. The cars were clean and there was plenty of room for disabled people too.

One of the highlights of visiting Nazare is taking the funicular up and down from a village called Sitio. Originally built in 1889, the steady moving Funicular has gone through several refurbishments, the last being in 2001 costing 1.5 million Euros.

There are actually two passenger cars that can carry 60 people each--passing each other midway. Every 15 minutes they leave the station. It takes less than five minutes to go up or down. There is a walking path to one side for those that are inclined to do so. The cliff is over 1000 feet or 318 meters high. The cost for a roundtrip senior ticket was but 4 Euros.

Up on the cliff are well constructed walkways and sides for viewing down Nazare beach and town. The view is something you will not forget.

Along the way you may encounter women selling nuts. Many of these women are sisters.

Continue west and you will eventually come to a road that goes down the lighthouse and a small surf museum. The few Euros that you pay are well worth it.

In our mid-March visit, there were no cars that were allowed to go down that stretch of pavement. Tuk-tuk vehicles did transport people back and forth for 2 Euros one way. A number of vendors are at the beginning of the down slope hoping to catch thirsty patrons.

The ocean was flat. We were treated to superb views from the lighthouse though. There is also a small surf museum illustrating the famous people and their surfboards who have made these waters famous.

Good ride up and some excellent views from the top.

Well worth the cost. Seats in the funicular are really squashed - if you are anywhere near normal height you will have to sit bolt upright in order to fit your knees in!
