02. 09. 2021 Rocca di Cerere - we are looking for these mystical places. Better to experience this place with an ancient shrine than a castle. A beautiful view. I recommend. More Youtube travel video PSIS-visit. Iva + Petr, Prague CZ

Enna is called the navel of Sicily because of its position in the center of the island. The Carthaginians ruled here until it fell into the hands of the Romans in the First Punic War. Enna, in ancient times, was the seat of the cult of the goddess Demeter; nearby Lake Pergusa was thought to be the location where Hades raped Demeter’s beloved daughter, Persephone. The Rocca di Cerere (the rock of Demeter) is on the Northeastern tip of the old town, right below the Castello di Lombardia, built by Frederick II. From here one can see spectacular views of the mountains and the valleys below the castle and all the way to Mt. Etna. If you are lucky enough, climb the tower of the castle for the views right over the Rock of Demeter; from here, too, one can see Lake Pergusa. The place is ripe with atmosphere and one can feel its magic. It is no wonder that the ancients thought of this spot as sacred to Demeter and that her cult was located here. Enna is located right off the autostrada between Catania and Palermo. It’s a beautiful drive, along a very good road with little traffic. It is also a good point from which to make the half an hour drive to the Roman Villa del Casale.

This Roca offers amazing views of Enna, the castle and the valley surrounding Enna. Since our kids were asleep we left them in the strollers while we each took a turn to go up the hill, so we can't tell how hard it would be to go up the steps with small children. We would probably recommend having them in a carrier (at least infants).

This is right under the Castello Di Lombardia at the edge of the hill. If you are in the area and have visited the castle the Rocca di Cerere is just a short walk away and from here you get an excellent view of the castle and the surroundings.

Located near the castle of Enna, prividing great views of all central Sicily. The Etna is also visible, so the short climb s worthwhile, particularly on a bright day. Also recommend to enter the castle and climb the tower (3e entry ticket), as the two places are adjacent.

While the views are great from this rock, the former site of a Greek temple, the climb is steep and tough for those who are unsteady on their feet.

Of Etna, the town and the castle. One star missing because it's unattended and there is a risk of shipping and falling on the stairs...

Great location for a great view. Careful going up the stairs especially for the elder ones. But it is all worth it, you are just on the edge of a great view from around 1000m altitude.

Set below the castle, climb up to the top of this rock for great views especially across to the hilltop town of Calsascibetta.
