Fresh off the plane, we found this place as we began our search for my grandfather's birthplace. We arrived at 11:30 am, before lunch was being served. But, our hostess could not have been more welcoming. She offered us tea and scones while we waited for the kitchen to prep for the lunch hour. She offered my mom some soup, fresh garden vegetable - I regret not ordering it for myself. It was delicious, and perfect for a weary traveler and a rainy day. My tea and scone were so warming, I felt like settling in. She gave my son a hot chocolate, that tasted as good as it looked. I got a chicken wrap that was delicious, even though I was full from my tea and scones, I still had to eat it. But, to be honest, they were so warm and friendly, I think no matter what they fed me, I would have loved it.

To be honest I'm a local. The food is very consistently good in Con's. Not too over-reliant on salt etc. generally good wholesome, home-cooked food. Fantastic deserts and the best coffee in town. A lot of locals rate it as a clean friendly family run, professional establishment. There's lots of choice in Mullingar but Con's holds it's own no matter what the competition. Great personable staff who take pride in the reputation of the pub. We can easily recommend it. Also a great place to watch a European Cup or international rugby match on a weekend day or evening. A very respectable place.

Con and Joan Gilsenan and the staff of Cons Bar and Lounge in Mullingar -had a superb welcome for all the Bank of Ireland ladies and gentlemen who met up for a reunion in November 2013. As usual - the bar looks amazing - beautifully decorated and maintained and the service in Cons is famous.

its been many years since I have had the opportunity to eat in Cons - but based on the gorgeous food served by Joan (and her friend Mary Mul) the standard is still as high as ever.

If you love great food and luxurious tasteful surroundings - then Cons is a 'must see' in Mullingar.

My husband and I stopped for lunch on our way back from The West and the food hit the spot, however it was nothing special and definitely overpriced.
The staff was really friendly, especially the lady who looked after us, who was just what you need in a local pub!

We were passing through Mullingar and decided to stop. We knew as it was getting late in the evening the selection would not be great but we had never been to Cons so decided to give it a try. When I walked in I asked were they still serving food as the sign outside said food from 12 to 4 pm and it was 3.55 as I walked in the door. We were offered a few options as we were told lunch was over. We asked for two soups and two chicken sandwiches, we received exactly as we ordered no garnish fries etc. The soup came in what seemed to be very small bowls and the sandwiches were really more salt with a touch of chicken. The total bill came to 20.00 which i thought was expensive for such basic food.. I think they need to reevaluate their pricing structure

A group of nine of us pop in for lunch recently, as we were on our way back to Dublin after spending a few days in Athlone.
There was a few young teens with us and mullingar was a must stop,as Niall Horan of one direction is from mullingar and had just become an uncle that week.

We were all seated by a lovely middle aged lady who was very nice and straight away produced glasses, jugs of water and a bottle of orange cordial for the kids, I was very impresed. She took our order which was quite a lot considering there was nine of us.

The food was presented to us in less the ten minutes all nine dishes, soups, toasted sandwiches, plain sandwiches, chips, tea, coffee etc all in ten minutes great service. We had eaten in probably in six places in Athlone for lunch but nothing compared to the Quailty and service we recieved in Cons of mullingar, we will be back.

I had to write a review as we were so impressed by this place and to my amazement there wasn't a tripadviser page setup, so I requested for it to be done and here it is, well done Cons.

Every time I return to my hometown of Mullingar I bring my parents for lunch at Cons and once again I wasn’t disappointed. The food is fresh and delicious ....I had beef and Guinness casserole with mash and fresh vegetables, yum! My mother had roast pork and I sampled that too, delicious, my father had fish goujons and he loved them. Mine was washed down with lovely Sauvignon blanc. The service is fantastic with wonderful staff and even Con himself popped over to say hello. I couldn’t fault it. I look forward to another delicious meal when I’m next home in February. If you haven’t been .....make time for a visit ;)

I am a huge fan of salads especially Caesar salad! I ordered a Caesar salad in Con's on my lunch break and what was served was not a Caeser salad! 5 pieces of large lettuce were served in a a small circular pasta bowl with 3/4 strips of chicken laced with dressing and a miserable amount of over cooked bacon squares on top. Staff were extremely unhelpful, especially the manager! She offered me 'more chicken' and served it to me on a small side dish, it made me look miserable to other customers in the restaurant. 'Thats the size of a Caeser salad' according to the chef as my salad was returned to my table after being taken away. It is NOT the size of a Caeser salad? The salad cost a whopping 10euro which made me feel sick paying at the till as I ate the salad in a total of 3 minutes. Wish I took a photo to add to this review, it would really back me up. My friend who was with me couldn't believe the size of the salad, we could see through the salad to the bottom of the bowl. Felt so guilty for complaining with how the manager dealt with it-way to make your customers feel terrible Cons!

Found ourselves in mullingar last Tuesday looking for somewhere to have lunch
Cons award winning bar food sounded good!
The 3 marks I have given to this bar was for the friendly waitress avril.
We ordered drinks and lunch, mine been a small strogonoff.
No prob until an embarrassed avril came out with a large portion and apologised that chef refused AS it was plated up ahead! I smell a microwave job.

Wait for it! 5 mins later a lady came in to the next table beside us and ordered from a different waiter a small portion of strogonoff off he went to the kitchen and no problem out came a half portion!

Quality wine was not available" only on tap "' or quarter bottles.
Needless to say we
passed on desert and coffee went down to red earth for this where we should have gone for the lunch!
