- samlor42 contributionsGood but should be much betterSecond visit to Carlingford Marina to stay at Motorhome Aire. First visit was very enjoyable hence our second. Unfortunately this time was disappointing. We stayed Thursday &Friday night. First night there were just over 20 Motorhomes but second night we counted 34 so was very busy. At 10 euros a night this place should be quite a bit better. For example the parking spaces should be marked out clearly for Motorhome use only as we had cars squeezing in tight to us. Cars were also parked during daytime all over the area which was supposed to be Motorhome parking. It is a very nice spot with good walks & cycling and a short walk into Carlingford town where there is a good choice of good places to eat. On our first visit we had dinner in the Indian restaurant onsite at the Marina but unfortunately it has closed down not reopening after the lockdown. On our second night we ate in the cafe/bar at the Marina very poor we could not recommend it at all. The food was awful. It is a nice setting but having to eat before you can have a drink during present restrictions better just avoid altogether and head into Carlingford town. Good spot for Motorhomes but time a little effort was made to make it an excellent Motorhome Aire.Visited August 2020Written August 16, 2020
- Field of the BullCounty Dublin, Ireland39 contributionsMarinaA good stopping off point at the top of the east coast. Unless you have a good motor make sure to get past Greenore before the ebb tide starts flowing. Berths are good value for a yacht and also ashore for a camper van. Expect a warm welcome in Rabelo Bistro when you get ashore. The village is a short walk, but make sure to cross the main road and go by the old road into the town.Visited September 2020Written October 17, 2020
- Trish Murphy11 contributionsJust perfect !!!The apartments were so spacious for 3 of us. Views were fabulous & everything we needed there for our stay (we tend to bring more than enough supplies with us wherever we go) Nathan in the Rocksalt bar & restaurant literally could not have done more to make us feel welcome. Compliments to the chef, another lovely guy, who made fabulous food. All the staff were so friendly. We will definitely be back, thanks to allVisited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten August 13, 2023
- Gerard C9 contributionsDon’t trust a “confirmed” booking & PIN on Booking.comBooked, confirmation received, paid in full. I had packed for our two night stay and was already travelling down to the property. I got an email from booking.com to say the booking was cancelled by the host. I was refunded quickly but not the full amount due to “changes” in the exchange rate. They had the cheek to refer me to my bank and offered alternative accommodation 10 miles away! I will never trust these apartments or Booking.com again. Their booking confirmation is not worth the paper it’s written on.Visited June 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 14, 2021

The bar/restaurant did a basic menu not really much to chose from. It closed at 5 o'clock but other I've enjoyed my stay.... float your boat self drive boats was the highlight of my trip the owners (can't remember names) were lovely people and the trip out into the open sea was a blastVisited August 2022Traveled with familyWritten August 25, 2022

Place is a total shambles the break water is held together by two lorry ratchet straps couple of the pontoons and barely afloat. Health abs safety obviously miss this place! Looks decidedly like the Grant was given to someone to build a marine who didn’t make much effort! Worst I’ve been in ever!Visited September 2021Traveled with friendsWritten September 9, 2021

- lucy1999Newry, United Kingdom29 contributionsBlocking GreenwayCarlingford Marina have installed a pay car park at the start of the Greenway to extract a few Euros from the walkers whose taxes paid for the Greenway. Typical of the old rip off Ireland mentalityHi Lucy1999, thanks for getting in touch. As I am sure you are aware; Carlingford Marina's cooperation with Louth County Council was pivotal to the success of the Carlingford - Omeath Greenway. The property we have allowed for development of the Greenway provides a 1.2 km link between the village of Carlingford and the rest of the walkway. The suggestion that we are "blocking the greenway" is absurd. We are doing precisely the opposite. The Greenway is an ongoing project that we believe in, and is something that we feel will be of great benefit to the local community. All property owners have opened up their land for development of the Greenway, and have done so free of charge. The suggestion that any of us have benefited from Tax Payers Money; again is untrue. Where we have been able to open up a large portion of Carlingford Marina property for the development of the Greenway, we have not been able to provide car parking facilities for walkers. There are many different businesses operating within the Carlingford Marina Complex - all of which require customer parking facilities. Our berth holders for example need to be able to park here, as do customers of Cafe Marina, The Carlingford Marina Apartments, etc. It is important to remember that all customers of the facility can park here for free - whether they are issued with a key fob as berth holders, or are given a parking token as customers of the cafe. The pay parking system aids only to restrict parking to bonafide customers of the facility. I appreciate that this might not be an ideal solution for you - but there are parking facilities beside King John's Castle that are free to use. Perhaps you could park, and start your walk from there. Every so often then, if you wanted to pop in to Cafe Marina for a coffee after your walk - they will give you a token to park here for free. If there is anything that I haven't covered for you here, please feel free to call into the Marina Office for a chat. It has facilities such as toilets , hot showers , helpful staff and a fantastic Indian restaurant on site . It is a five minute walk to the town and has the greenway walkway starting point on site . Well worth a stay. Thanks Emmajane M! Camper-van parking is a new thing we've started here at Carlingford Marina. At the moment we are opening up our car park as an AIRE camper-van site with limited services such as toilets and showers. The plan / the hope is to develop part of our boat yard as a fully serviced camper-van site! The design we have for it would accommodate up to 16 camper-vans at a time; each bay having its own electric port, fresh water supply and outdoor seating area. We'd love also to incorporate a communal BBQ pit into the design, and to really make the most of the views out over the Marina and onto the Lough. I had difficulty finding the Marina entrance - as it is quite narrow and has a "Hair-pin" bend. It didn't seem to be adequately signposted!
However, it is very scenic, being positioned on Carlingford Lough - with hills all around.
Facilities are very good for sailing, dining/drinking or Motorhome Parking.
The Carlingford - Omeath (7.5km) Greenway (Cyclepath) has an entrance from the Marina (where bicycles can be hired - and where organised tours leave from).
A tourist attraction as well as being an excellent local facility.
I spent a most enjoyable two hours photographing this most scenic area - on a lovely sunny day.
Recommended.

My sisters surprised me with my hen weekend in Carlingford and we stayed at the Marina Apartments, it was fantastic! The apartments were so spacious and bright, they were so clean and plenty of towels etc! The staff were lovely and so accommodating, I honestly can't speak highly enough of the whole experience! I would recommend the accommodation to anyone! Thanks for a brilliant weekend!

We are always on the lookout for good Indian restaurants, and saw the sign for this brand new one when visiting Carlingford Lough last week. It had been open only two days, we were told, which was hard to believe as things went so smoothly.
We can't say anything about the rest of the Marina facilities, but we can say that this was an excellent eating experience with fine food (we tried a very tasty Himalayan curry), friendly prompt service and a lovely view over the Lough.
Those disappointed visitors who came here before and found no catering facilities open should return now and see what's on offer.
