If you are looking for a memorable trip to Iceland, look no further than Herdis, of Understand Iceland. Herdis is a creative planner, on top of all the details and seamlessly adjusted the plan if weather interfered. Each day was well paced and a stand alone adventure to amazing locations in Iceland. The restaurants she selected served delicious food and were ready for us when our group of 18 women arrived. Add to this is the fact that she is a wonderful storyteller about all things Iceland.

Herdis and I have collaborated on 6 tours together and she is a wonderful local guide. The trips are always filled with unique experiences that you cannot get by travelling by yourself or with a standard tour group. She adds great local cultural and historic stops along with adventure activities. These activities include riding Icelandic horses, hiking along the bird cliffs, fishing for cod, kayaking in a fjord and many more. The meals on our trips are outstanding - filled with local fish, lamb and traditional desserts! If you want to truly experience Iceland and not just feel like an ordinary tourist, book a tour with Herdis and Understand Iceland!

West Iceland was voted one of Lonely Planet’s best destinations. The Grabrok volcano crater with lunar like lava marks is a spectacular sight. One has to be fit to scale the 1.5 km hike up with most gradients at 45 degrees. Fortunately, the stair pathway was very well constructed. Thank God, we made it!👏

Having visited the country as part of a university field trip, Understand Iceland organised a programme that was specifically tailored to our needs and interests. Herdis and her dad were incredibly accommodating and very friendly. Would certainly recommend!

I visited Iceland as part of a University of Cambridge field trip, and Herdis was a fantastic guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable, and was ready to answer any question we had. The tour was very well organised, but Herdis’ easy going nature made the whole trip feel very relaxed. She has great local connections, so was able to tailor the trip to our interests. I would 100% recommend Understand Iceland.
