Westfjords Region 7-day trip; June 2022

I selected this trip simply because nights were to be spent in hotels rather than in mountain huts. I was very lucky and fortunate, in that I cannot image that Iceland offers a better experience or more magnificent scenery. Each day presented a unique variation in a 7 day chain of wonderful experiences. Each day was rewarded with a great dinner and an evening spent in comfortable lodging. The variety and number of reasons to recommend Ride with Locals (RWL) as an outfitter prompts listing them as simple bullet points:

The packaging of this tour enhanced the experience on every level.

Skuli and his colleagues are excellent riders and wonderful guides. They are great traveling companions, willing to discuss Iceland's history, legends, culture, flora and fauna, and current affairs. Iceland is in their blood, and their love of the island is infectious. They also talk motorcycles.

RWL attracts impressive riders as clients, in this case from several US states and Britain. To a man they were great company. Although they set a fast pace over rugged terrain, they were gracious regarding my lesser skills.

This experience cannot be duplicated without Skuli et al. They have an intimate knowledge of routes and off road trails, including some across private lands open only by permissions given to them. They know and arrange the best options for lodging, meals and sites in the Region.

The tour covered expansive and remote landscapes, as well as difficult terrain that could only be responsibly attempted with companions.

The toll on the bikes requires Skuli's support vehicle. Along with miscellaneous parts and refreshments, his truck carries gas, extra tires (they were required) and a back-up bike (also required). Trying to mimic this trip without RWL could strand one far from help without this technical backup.

Caveat; this trip was arranged and advertised for those with advanced riding skills. Having booked through a third party, I missed the extent of that admonition. I'm glad of that.

Skuli is very responsive to e-mails. He can help guide your planning for trip you do not want to miss.

Whatever words I write will not do this trip justice! The 3 days I spent riding with Skuli in Iceland was one of the most amazing times of my life (and I've travelled the world on boats, planes, and motorcycles).
First off...the people: Skuli is an awesome dude. In addition to being our guide, he was our chef and our storyteller. He's the first one up in the morning (making breakfast and preparing the bikes) and the last one to go to sleep…retiring after cooking an awesome meal and keeping us entertained with his 'viking humor.' He obviously knows the back roads well…and chooses an itinerary that keeps us (literally) on the edge of our seat (more on that below).
Along with Skuli, we had Chris…another great guide and mechanic (who saved the trip twice by keeping the bikes running!) and Eva, who drove the support vehicle as well as always having an interesting story to tell or engaging in great conversation.
The bikes: I was on a husky 701….what a blast to ride! Whether we were in the soft sand, climbing a rocky hill, ripping across a volcanic 'desert,' crossing a river, or riding on the tarmac in the 'sideways rain,' the husky was always solid.
The terrain/views: "Epic," "Wow," "Amazing," "Unreal"….those words were repeated over and over. It felt like we were entering a different country with every turn. Waterfalls, volcanos, black sand desert, river crossings, forest, rocky trails, canyons, craters…we saw it all!
Bottom line…I can't recommend this trip enough! My only regret is that I only booked the 3 day trip…I'm hoping to do a longer one next year.

Extraordinary motorcycle offroad trip in the South of Iceland, between lava and ash deserts, volcanoes, glaciers, lakes and rivers of all kinds. A paradize for enduro riders, huge ! Easy tracks and other much less, sandy and rocky, as much as possible off the busy and pothole-filled F-Roads, with unparalleled assistance and overnight stays in mountain huts far from civilization : 6 days in the highlands for an exceptional experience to discover real Iceland guided by local guys.

It was also a great opportunity to meet worldwide travellers from US, South Africa, UK and make new friends. On top, I was nicely surprised by the always open mind engagement of the Ridewithlocals Icelandic team whatever the task, a Big thank you to Eva, Kris, Ingvar and Skuli. I hope more French riders will experiment Ridewithlocals exceptional tours in the future, I recommend it in full confidence.

Every day there was something new to experience that, to me, could only be done by enduro bike. From the infectious sound of Skuli's evil viking laugh to the effortless way the guides handled the terrain, every day was awesome.
The guides genuinely wanted to give the customer the best experience they could by showcasing their wonderful country. The use of enduro bikes and the encyclopaedic knowledge of the guides facilitated going to places that most ordinary tourists would not know existed.
The riding was initially challenging as I had minimal off road skills, but the guides patiently helped me build confidence whereby at the end of the week I covered terrain which I would have thought impossible at the start of the week.
Many thanks to Skuli, Einar, Bouli and Daniel.

All the magic and beauty of Iceland lives in the depths of the country, off the Tarmac (highways) and on the F-Roads!

Myself and 3 friends participated in the 3 Day motorcycle tour which placed us in the Southern part of the island. Each day presented a drastically different landscape of volcanoes, river crossings, glaciers and stunning sights.

The trip includes overnights in various Huts throughout the countryside, all well accommodated with food and beverage. There is a chase car which includes a trailer for luggage, supplies, spare bike and any other immediate needs while in the back-country.

Special Note: I had not done enough off-road riding prior to the trip and struggled the first day. I would recommend a few days of practice prior to the trip. Though once I found a rhythm, I had an absolute blast. The terrain varies greatly every few hours (rocks, sand, fire roads, grass, etc). I absolutely came out of this tour as a better motorcycle rider!

Highly recommend the proper rain gear. As with the terrain, the weather can change drastically within a matter of minutes.

No better way to enjoy and see everything that Iceland has to offer.

I have been on an offroad tour in Iceland with Ride with Locals in 2022 which was fantastic. So when I found out that Ride with Locals is doing an enduro ride in South Africa, I booked immediately. I knew Skuli and his Ride with Locals South Africa team would put together an unforgettable ride.

And they did!! The riding was certainly more technical than my Iceland trip which is exactly what I wanted. Lots of tight singletrack, double track, hill climbs and descents. Rocks and water to play in and sand roads to cool off. The terrain was amazing and views were incredible. At times it seemed like we were riding in a National Geographic show about Africa.

My bike was well prepared and not a single issue despite the abuse I gave it. No better bike for this ride than a light KTM two stroke.

The South Africa Ride with Locals team really put together an amazing trip for us. It truly is riding with locals. I felt like a new friend riding in the South Africa offroad scene. The comradery and fun both on and off the bike is truly off the charts. Accommodations on the beach were excellent. The boutique hotel .... well.. I won't give anything away but it must be experienced in person. You will know what I mean when I say there aren't enough words to describe it. You just have to see it with your own eyes. I guarantee you will be stunned and impressed.

I highly recommend the South African Enduro ride. Every one of us are already trying to plan a return to South Africa to ride with Britt, Gareth, Skuli and Paul again. It was unforgettable.

Just finished seven days riding the West Fjords adventure tour. My second trip with Skuli. Awesome trip, fantastic scenery around every bend. Accommodations were great and meals gave you plenty of options and opportunities to explore the local Icelandic cuisine. The crew kept the bikes well maintained, fueled and ready for the day’s adventure. If you have ever considered exploring Iceland on a dirt bike Ride with Locals is your guide. Dirt bike experience and quality wet weather riding gear are highly recommended and a must have. Do it !!

Awesome tour. The days usually start not to early so no rushing in the morning. The guys bring you to places, which you could never find if you tried to go on your own. You see so manny stunning places in just one day that the time really runns slow and you can enjoy every moment of it.In the evening you will either stay in a mountain hut in the middle of nowhere or in a nice summerhouse. Besides all this you will get an awesome dinner and breakfast made in a icelandic style (it is really really tasty).

Defiantly Local - Skuli showed us secret places and routes only locals know! Skuli is a skilled safe driver on highway, off road, in a river, on snow or in a white out. State of the art equipment with the knowledge and skill to use it to make the trip exciting and safe. Very good communicator. Keeps his promises. Great knowledge of hotels and restaurants.

After reading the reviews we had extremely high expectations for our ride with “School-eee” and his team… and they over-delivered! We had a group of 7 from Utah and Florida with everyone from motocross and Baja riders to basic off road enduro and they customized our trip for our exact skill set. Dinners were fabulous and the sights were absolutely amazing. EVERYONE was amazed at the trip. Stop wasting $ buying stuff and invest in amazing life experiences like this! You wont regret it!
