About
Holasport is a small family run tourist company that has operated since 2010 and is located in a small village south of Iceland, Kirkjubæjarklaustur. In 2016 we changed our name to Secret Iceland. We feel that our new name, Secret Iceland describes better what we focus on in our tours. We focus on individuals and small groups with a maximum of 12 passengers in each Super Jeep. We will take you out of the beaten track and see hidden places that are still undisturbed and untouched. Join the full day tour to Lakagigar craters in Vatnajokull National Park. The super jeep tour is for those who want to get the most out of the day. Our super jeeps are specially modified in Iceland to be able to deal with the tough surroundings in the highlands and on glaciers. Owners of Secret Iceland are the brothers Gudmann and Trausti. We, the owners, grew up in this area. We have a great interest in tourism and Icelandic nature. We have travelled around all Iceland for more than 25 years by jeep, snowmobile and on quad bikes/ ATV's in wintertime as well as in summer. All our tours include an English speaking local guide that is also a certified Katla Geopark guide. Secret Iceland is open year round. Tours are on daily schedule from May to the end of September from small town in south of Iceland, Kirkjubæjarklaustur. In winter we offer tours from Reykjavík. We offer custom-made tours for various interest-groups in winter by requests.

This was an outstanding day. Great hikes, amazing terrain, and informative commentary from a gregarious owner. The road is rough but the vehicle has huge tires and air shock absorbers. So it is as smooth as you are going to get. The hike up Laki was challenging for this 66 year old. But out of shape I still got the top for breathtaking vistas. Highly recommended

Last week my wife and me spent a day in the beautiful scenery of Laki. We were lucky with the weather (and this is useful) but in any case the landscape is fantastic. The guide is the owner and he gave us a lot of useful information; the car is really good. So, although a little expensive, I can certainly recommend this tour !

We booked the "Laki Craters Mountain Expedition" (super jeep tour) and were not disappointed: Our driver and guide, Trausti, took us up to Laki while giving us a lot of information (in English) about the craters, Mount Laki, the Laki fires, volcanos and Iceland in general. After a fun, wild ride through lava and across rivers we reached the parking ground next to Laki (There are a small info centre lead by friendly and helpful park rangers, a map and a toilet). After a 40 min hike we reached the top of Laki where we had a stunning view over the crater row just before some nasty clouds came in... Another short hike into a small crater was also quite fun.
After the lunch break, we hiked for another hour through spectacular lava formations. On our way back to Klaustur we stopped on a small hill to get a great view and later near the beautiful Fagrifoss. A short and easy hike over the wonderful canyon Fjaðrárgljúfur rounded up our trip.

Trausti was friendly, never rushing us and always ready to give us plenty of information. The tour started at 9 am at Hotel Laki or the N1 station in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, ran around 9 h and combined driving and (individual) hiking in almost equal amounts of time. We were six persons in total (which still leaves everybody with enough space in the car). Bring with you warm (wind- and rain-resistant) clothes as well as a camera and food for the day and you will have a lot of fun!

Our family of four (two kids, ages 10 & 12) did the three hour tour to Fagrifoss, the beautiful gorge I can't pronounce, and the pseudo craters. Wonderful scenery; great guide, and a safe and comfortable ride. The jeep is huge! If, like us, you aren't ready to commit to a full day jeep tour because of time and/or cost, this was well worth it to get a taste of the Highlands and leave you wanting a bit more. I think the full day trip to Laki would have been great as well, and I kind of wish we would have done it. So much to see!

We joined this trip after researching likely issues with a 'normal' 4x4 on the road to Laki. A couple of the rivers that one would need to cross both going in to Laki and on the return have a reputation for going high/deep quickly following rainfall and we didn't want to chance that sort of difficulty. It turned out that Holasport was associated with the hotel that we had planned to stay at for a few nights (Hotel Laki, Efri-Vik), and the trip on offer seemed perfect not least as it would give us very much more time to see and explore the Laki area on foot than we would have had ourselves. Trausti and Guðmann, who run the business, have a heavily modified Ford Econoline with 46" tires. Trausti picked our family of four up at the hotel at 9am and another family at Klauster. The 'super jeep' made light work of the two rivers but they would have been a serious challenge for myself. We had an excellent day. Trausti was a good guide and excellent driver.

Thanks to our guide for the fantastic day we spent. Their day trip takes you up to the Laki mountain into the craters and spectacular lava fields. The guide gave us plenty of explanations related to the morphology and history of Laki. The tour ends with a beautiful short hike over a wonderful canyon.

Traveling with a scooter can be a pain but riding on a quad with guthman from holosport was terrific fun. One day we did pseudo craters and the next day the black sand beach. In the middle of a 3.5 hr trip was a break with a flush toilet. I felt as if I were 20 again

September 4, 2012. We hired Holasport for an 8-9 hour tour of the volcanic region near Kirkjubaejarklauster and had a wionderful day! Our driver picked us up at our hotel as promised and proceeded to give my wife and I an offroad tour high into the hills around Mount Laki. The customized Super Jeep was able to take through rivers and up trails that would have stopped lesser vehicles. The tour combined driving and hiking in almost equal amounts of time. As the wind was very strong (60 mph) in the highlands our hiking was limited. But whenever we were finished our driver was waiting for us and ready to continue. He was well informed about the history and geology of the area and communicated clearly with us in English as we speak no Icelandic. This is a young touring company and they go out of their way to be gracious and helpful. If you want to see more of southern Iceland than what is visible from the road, check out Holasport. It's well worth it to get in contact with them.

Hesitated a long time between the bus and the Super Jeep tour. We are ever so glad we chose Gudmann's Super Jeep :
- very comfortable
- we got to Laki in half the time and before the crowds
- Gudmann was friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining
- the kids loved the excitement of the "slow" river crossings
- many stops in excellent sites with time for short exploring walks

My girlfriend and I booked the Crater 2 tour via the Holasport website.

As per agreement Thorberg was waiting for us at the petrol station of Kirkjubaearklaustur and we boarded his super jeep.

The ride with this king of the road proved a fun experience by itself. While steering the vehicle through rivers and over cart tracks our driver provided information about the environment and about Iceland and its inhabitants in general.

The tour included stops at three extraordinary locations, all listed among the top landscapes we witnessed in Iceland :

Fagrifoss pours its waters over the rock as intricate and delicate as a spider web and headlines our shortlist of most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.

Fjadrargljufur gorge is simply breathtaking : unspoiled, impressive in depth, with very indented edges in a variety of amazing shapes.

Landbrotsholar pseudo craters are a phenomenon particular to the region. They emerge when lava hits shallow water.

On every occasion we were allowed ample time to take pictures.

Thorberg was very friendly, patient and open to questions or requests. He even called around to arrange sleeping accommodation for our friends.

In conclusion :

We consider the Crater 2 tour value for money. We warmly recommend Thorberg and his super jeep and look forward to using his services again in the future.
