This place is magical. I loved every minute of our time there and would highly recommend a visit. The water temperature is perfect and the surroundings are gorgeous. A few words of warning though. The 45 minute hike out to the bathing area is uphill....More

This is a can't miss attraction if you're in the Hveragerdi area. The hike out to the river is mostly uphill and steepest at the beginning, but eventually levels out; there are some beautiful scenic vistas of the valley, town and ocean along the way....More

Are we there yet may constantly echo through your head (or ears with small children) as you hike towards the river. It is uphill for most of the three-kilometer trail. However, the trial is maintained nicely and the parking lot has free bathrooms. I went...More

We wanted to avoid the group bath blue lagoon and this was a magnificent alternative. We went in the a.m. after a local bakery coffee and croissant trip. A one hour hike and only a few other bathers in the river. Nice hike with great...More

Beautiful but intense hike up the side of a mountain while viewing steam all around. Hot river was gorgeous and felt wonderful. Open dressing areas.

The hike in is 90% uphill for 2.3 miles; it’s a workout. But well worth it! You will see hot muddy springs and hot clear springs along the hike. And sheep too! And the great plus is the Hot River is free. Because you are...More

I called the tourist center to make sure it wasn’t closed before I made the drive and they told me it is now closed forever and you will be fined if they find you out there. Lame and disappointed!

I drove all the way from Reykjavik today only to find the trail was closed due to overuse. When's it going to open? Who knows? It took me awhile to find someone who knew anything. Right at the roundabout where the Ring Road (main highway)...More

Great walking in all seasons through beautiful scenery to be rewarded with a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs. Not to be confused with Hveradalir in central Iceland which is an altogether different experience. Hveragerði is located just off Highway 1, 45 km to...More

I just hiked to the Hot River in Hverigerdi the evening of July 10 at about 8:30pm. We hiked out at 11:00pm and people were still hiking in! Relaxing in the river was a great way to spend the evening! And it was not very... More

We were there in March. Not sure why they would close the trail up to the springs. I would think the answer is on the internet.
