The waterfall is an easy enough walk from the car parking area at the side of Road 1. There are no facilities at all, so don't expect a cafe or toilets. The waterfall was in slightly better flow than the TA image and has an impressive drop. Barrier fencing means everybody can have a good view from a comfortable (and dry) distance.

My wife and I spent a week on holiday in eastern Iceland and hiked to Rjúkandi Waterfall, just off the road - easy hike from Highway 1.

Just beautiful. My wife and I just cannot believe we have had the opportunity to see this amazing site. If you are in the area, this is a must see!!!

This huge waterfall can be viewed after walking a short trail right beside the highway 1 ring road. It is between Egilsstadir and Akureyri. It is well marked and hard to miss. There is a parking area right beside the road. It is a good place for a break and a short walk up to the waterfall. When we were there in May, part of the waterfall was still frozen. That was pretty amazing since there was a tremendous amount of water roaring over the falls.

A small waterfall not far from the road so worth stopping for a few minutes if you're passing by. Freezes in winter.

This is a nice enough waterfall by most people’s standards, but if you are doing the ring road you have probably already seen better by the time you arrive at Rjukandi. The only reason I stopped here was the proximity to the ring road.

Nice stop along route 1.

Nothing impressive (yeah we tend to become picky after two weeks in Iceland) but beautiful enough waterfall.

Parking is free as of May 2023.

The hike up to the waterfall is a short and easy one. Not for wheelchair though.

Time spent ~ 15 min

Conveniently located right off Highway 1. There a bunch of steep waterfalls along this route in Jökulsá á Dal Valley, but this is the only one that offers a roadside pullover with a small parking lot. This allows you to get out of the car, bring the camera and take the short hike up to the falls. This is a short scenic break in the drive and well worth the time to stop. This is an incredible powerful steep waterfall. Great photo opportunity. There are two "levels" you can view from. One is only a short walk uphill. The second "level" takes you closer, but is a bit more of a climb. You'll be able to clearly see where you are heading along the way from each viewing point.

A short hike takes you to a beautiful cascading fall right off the highway. It’s a great place to stop and stretch your legs for a minute and come up close with one of the many falls you see in this region.

This waterfall is right on the Ring Road, no detour required! There is a small parking area on the side of the road with an informational sign and a short gravel path to a viewpoint. The path is short but steeper than it looks. The twin waterfalls are stunning and too easy a stop to miss. It can be found at GPS Coordinates: 65.327251, -15.087550 and also goes by Rjúkandafoss.
