The crater lake is definitely very nice with its tourquise water but somehow, if a nature attraction is too easy to visit, it loses its magic for me. The parking lot is really only several steps from Víti. What attracted my attention much more, was a view on Krafla geothermal power plant nearby which was very interesting for me.

We agreed to a 5 min stop between visiting Leirhnjukur and the Myvatn baths as that is all the time we had. And it turned out that was all the time we needed to see a small blue crater lake. Its a nice colour but it isn't worth a special trip.

Definitely a must stop when heading to Myvatn. This crater is beautiful, most of the year surroundings are already covered in snow and it looks amazing. At the same time you can admire the geothermal powerplant that is right underneath the hill.

We thought this was a little under-whelming. The blue lake in the center is pretty, but it wasn't as great as I expected. If you have extra time, it's worth a stop and a climb up. The valley is also interesting with the steam pipes and power plant.

Nice crater, you can walk around it and even hike on top of it.There is a hiking path around the summit for which you need approx. 15 minutes. Beautiful crater lake in emerald color, just within 10 minutes drive from Myvatn. From the summit you can admire the vast volcano area and the nearby geothermal power plant. The drive here is a scenic drive on paved roads over craters and geothermal area. Easily accessible by car . The parking is close to the crater. Nice place and worth seeing.

It's a crater with water in it. It's about a minute from the parking lot. It's in a very geothermally active area. You pass a geothermal power plant in the way. There is also the famous shower in the way. Didn't find it as picturesque as the Kerid crater.

I agree with Dakial's review. There's nothing particularly special about this crater, though it's nice to get out of the car and do some walking. It's close to the Krafla lave fields, so if you're visiting them, you should take a few extra minutes and take the relatively short hike to this crater.

Thanks for reading. If you’ve found this helpful I’ll appreciate a thumbs up below.

If you are already in krafla so take a look but the crater is different from the professional pictures. For those who limited in time the crater is a not must see.

A short hike took us to this beautiful view of the crater. Since it was drizzling, we didn't walk along the rim but still enjoyed the views from the main view point.

An easy hike around the lip of the Viti crater, with its beautiful blue crater lake and steaming geothermal pipelines nearby. Don't be surprised if you suddenly feel like you are in the middle of a spy movie, seeking out the villain's lair! Take note: the trail will likely be muddy - REALLY muddy - so don't wear your good shoes. They will be caked in mud by the end of the hike!

This is a good hike for all ages and skill levels, with no steep climbs or difficult terrain to navigate. Just follow the trampled path around the crater and back to the parking lot. Note that there are no services provided at this site.
