The tour was a lot of fun. The staff were very friendly and inviting. I took the 1 hour tour and my group was guided around the rocky lava field in the area. The horses were fantastic and full of character. Mine kept eating while walking. Hint: unless you’re a riding expert, do not bring a camera with you.

It was an amazing experience. We had two hours of riding, and in the last hour we were alone. We had a sweet guide. Even though not everything went as planned it was still such a good experience. And the notplanned part only made for a more fun trip. The horses were very well behaved and you felt safe while riding.

This was our last stop when exploring the Myvatn region. An amazing way to wrap up the stay and experience the nature and fabulous views from a more personal angle. Very friendly and knowledgeable (about horses and interesting facts about nature and area) staff, a warm and family centric atmosphere. Some of us had never done horseback riding before and this was no problem at all. Would recommend this highly!

It was amazing, I went with my dad, I do have a lot of riding experience, but he has no experience. We did the two hour tour and had an amazing time. The nature is just fabulous and it was an amazing route. The horses are so cute, brave and well cared for. The people were so nice and could speak English really well! They also told us soms fun facts about the area along the way.
A must!

We did the two hour tour and had a wonderful time. We rode through the lava fields and along the Lake. The horses were gentle and well behaved. The Icelandic horse has a special gait called a "tolt". Great instruction. It's a simple place. They provide helmets and a bug net (much needed!) and they have a bathroom. The saddles were english. I would highly recommend this even for beginners!

We did the two-hour tour and had a great time. My husband had no experience riding, but felt very comfortable because the horses were gentle and well-behaved. The Icelandic horse has a special gait called a "tolt" and it’s very comfort to ride the horse during this gait. My husband had no problem with it. We got very clear instruction. They provide helmets and a bug net (much needed!) The guide Elizabeth was very knowledgeable and we learned some fun facts! I would highly recommend this even for beginners!

This was the highlight of Myvatn for us! Gilli is a skilled and knowledgeable guide. We saw gorgeous countryside and learned a lot along the way. The horses are clearly well taken care of and they excellently trained. We are novice riders and had an easy time of it. The tour itself takes you through some very unique spots! We had a great time and are so glad we did it! Highly recommend!

Camping at lake Myvatn, our four teenager boys decided to do horeseriding before we had to move on that day and luckily Safari Horse Rental told us to come in 1 1/2 hours. There was a very nice welcome and after a few minutes we were ready to leave.
Only one of us did horseriding before, but the horses knew exactly what to do and so we felt very comfortable. We made a few stops to relax and to get information about the landscape, the nature, the history and more.
We only planned do to go for one hour, but as we enjoyed it so much, spontaneously decided to extend the ride for another hour.
Thank you very much for this great experience!

We had a wonderful time on an hour tour through the lava fields and along the Lake. We are beginners and the owner gave us gentle horses. The Icelandic horse has a special gait called a "tolt". Great instruction. It's a simple place. More as if your friend's uncle who grew up in that area took you out for a ride. The owner was a retired school teacher and excellent equestrian. We enjoyed his company and hearing the history of the region. If you are staying at the Laxa Hotel it's a couple minutes away. You can see the barn from the hotel. They had shelves with helmets of all sizes in a mud room of the house where we paid the fee to his wife. They have a bathroom. The saddles were english. The owner gave us treats to give our horses at the end of the ride and they cozied up. It was fun and beautiful. Loved getting off the road onto the less beaten path. We went in late September on a rather cool day. We were the only ones on the ride. My husband who was originally reluctant considered this one of the highlights of our trip.

This 2 hours horse riding tour is definitely the best memory of our vacation in Iceland. The lake Myvatn is the most charming place in the whole country. Discovering its surrounding on an horse back is an exciting adventure, not only to see the bio diversity but also a unique landscape shaped by volcanic activity. The guide is very knowledgeable and happy to share stories and her love for the region. The horses are very gentle and the ride is easy, as the horses are almost on "auto pilot" mode :-)
I would highly recommend this tour.

Hi!
I was wondering how much time during the horse riding tour was spent actually riding the horses, as opposed to preparing/receiving instructions, etc.
Many thanks!

During 1 hour tour, we start them time once we leave the pen. Then we take you for 60 minutes (some trips could be as short as 57 minutes and other up to 68 minutes)
During 2 hour trip, the same principle applies except after about an hour or so we take a short 5 min break off the horses and we take a look at one of the pseudo craters in the area and if we are lucky we´ll have a pleasant surprise.
