- Ivy H153 contributionsMývatn Nature Baths is an absolute gem and a must-visit when exploring North Iceland. The warm, mineral-rich waters are incredibly relaxing, offering the perfect way to unwind while surrounded by breathtaking volcanic landscapes. The water temperature is just right, even on a chilly day and the steam rising from the pools adds to the magical atmosphere. Our children 9&11 year old also loved it! The Nature Baths feel more intimate and less crowded than other thermal pools, allowing for a peaceful and immersive experience. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, with showers, changing rooms, and a small café serving drinks and delicious snacks. Sitting in the warm water while watching the sun set over the surrounding lava fields is truly unforgettable!!! Whether you’re visiting after a day of exploring Lake Mývatn, hiking, or chasing waterfalls, this is the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of Iceland. Highly recommended! - Giuliana127 contributionsWonderful experience. It has a hot pool, a slightly colder one and a small pool (about 7 people) at 41 degrees and a Turkish bath. They are full-fledged thermal baths (they tell you to remove the jewels before entering), the floor is made of pebbles and around the bathrooms a surreal panorama made of volcanoes, fumaroles and endless expanses. We stayed in August and found the snow, it was very suggestive, a relaxing break in the middle of the ride to the geothermal area of Mývatn. Good value for money considering Icelandic prices: 45 euros about the entrance (half compared to the other Reykjavík lagoons) Highly recommended!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 22, 2024
- sarah vDevon, United Kingdom125 contributionsWe had a very good visit to these hot baths..we have been before 9 years ago. It was very quiet when we went..it was a nice experience as it was snowing outside. It was really relaxing, very clean. We had forgotten to take our towels with us and we rented some towels from them..this was very expensive..Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 3, 2024
- Deepa SPerth, Australia32 contributionsThe overall experience was ok. It was busy. There were families with children and the shower facilities were ok. The local baths in Reykjavik have better changing/shower areas. The views were good and you could see the lake from the steam room as wellVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 9, 2024
- Mariasj9Varazze, Italy27 contributionsNice spa to visit if you are in the area. There are three pools with three different graduations and two saunas. They also provide free still water and a pool bar is then available to buy drinks. However, I recommend paying for drinks at the entrance before entering, otherwise you need to take your card into the water and it is not very convenient. Have a relaxing evening!Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 30, 2024
- Alex DCanberra, Australia6 contributionsReally enjoyed this place. I did not get to go to Blue Lagoon because my plane was delayed and arrived after closing time, so no refund. But Myvatn Nature Baths we did not need a booking so no financial risk and was much cheaper so my suggestion if you are doing the full ring road would be to simply not bother with Blue Lagoon and just do Myvatn. My wife was able to do both because she arrived on a different flight (long story short, we started in different countries) and agreesVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 31, 2024
- MarcoAngeloRome, Italy539 contributionsIt's worth going. Compared to the Blue Lagoon it is a more "real" structure, set in a beautiful landscape. They are doing work that will finish in 2025 and plan to expand it. Dilapidated locker room about cleaning at the Blue Lagoon level. Bring your slippers that are not available on site. Tiny lockers. Hot pool and lukewarm pool + a 41 degree tub for a few people. Slightly sulphurous water. Here too, when groups arrive, dozens upon dozens of people end peace.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 21, 2024
- philippe v116 contributionsvery good time spent in these baths at 41°. We had a voucher from our travel agency so a Reservation good because they were full on our schedule We can rent towels 1000kr , lockers available, common changing rooms no individual cabins. An excellent moment of relaxation.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 13, 2024
- Destinos PasajerosCadiz, Spain1,936 contributionsBest part of the trip. Well organized, spacious, with possibility of having a drink both in the pool and in a large dining room. It smells like sulfur, but it's what characterizes it. Bearable. Highly recommended because, it is not cold.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2024
- StefacastaParma, Italy52 contributionsSpa facility located in the north of Iceland more spartan than the well-known Blue Lagoon, but perhaps for this reason more true. There are two large tubs at different temperatures (cooler than the outside) and a small rectangular tub at 41 °. Spectacular views of the surrounding area. Essential changing rooms, with showers equipped with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Possibility to rent towels. Work is underway to expand and modernize the structure.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 8, 2024

True confession: I don't really enjoy saunas or hot tubs. My wife enjoys them nominally more than I do, but given that we were in Iceland, we felt we should check out one of the local geothermal attractions. Rather than go to the crowded and touristy options near Reykjavik, we tried these baths near Mývatn instead.
The facility is relatively large, with locker and shower rooms, steam baths, geothermal pools, saunas, and even a restaurant on site. The baths are elevated a bit on a hillside, so we visited late in the day, allowing us to lounge in one of the larger outdoor pools (temp around 35 to 40 C) and watch the sun sink to the horizon. It was a lovely experience . . . for about 30 minutes. We stayed for closer to 90 minutes though, and at some point it just felt dull. The view of the sunset was nice, and there was some interesting people-watching to be done, but that's about as far as the entertainment went. The space was pretty busy, even late in the evening (again, it was summer, so daylight was lingering).
For people who already enjoy long soaks in hot water, this would probably be a four or five star experience. But for those of us who find hot water good mostly for showers, this was a novelty at best. I probably wouldn't spend the nearly $50 USD to do it again.

Been to both Myvatn and Blue Lagoon, have to say I preferred the Blue Lagoon a little more. Myvatn opens at 12pm, so it’s already extremely crowded. Taking an early morning slot in Blue Lagoon gives you a lot more space. Also preferred the temperature of blue lagoon a little more than Myvatn.

Just outside Reykjahlid (3 km) this spa facility with water temperatures between 35° and 40° consists of very beautiful natural pools. For those who love these activities the structure is less expensive (entrance 6200 isk) than the more famous Blue Lagoon and also much less crowded. Open every day from 9.00 to 24.00

The nature baths are okay, but in dire need of a refresh. The changing rooms were much too small for the number of visitors and the lagoons were not well maintained with slimy seats and tired stairs. There was only one really hot bath, which was a concrete trough, and the biggest pool was only luke warm.
On the plus side, the staff were lovely and helped me sort out a mistake I made with my booking with no problems at all, and we did feel a lot less achy after spending an hour here.
It looks like they're doing some work at the moment to expand and improve the facilities, but until that's complete, I would recommend visiting a different hot spring.

This is the true Icelandic, authentic thermal bath experience.
I preferred this site to the Blue Lagoon.
I recommend you bring your own towel (thin quick drying ones like those used by campers / hikers) and your own rubber flip flops / shower sandals, these for traction and health reasons.
Small, but big enough to not be crowded by tourists.
Attended by locals, intimate.
No reservation needed. Show up (check times), purchase your entry, get your locker coin and enter the locker room.
Instructions are clearly posted. Get naked, shower, bathe with soap, with particular attention the important points shown on the anatomical chart. Put your swim suit on and enter the lagoon.
The water is warm with different temperature pockets.
The water has a slippery but not slimy feel.
You will immediately notice groups of Icelanders talking and socializing, particularly after work hours.
There is a swim up window to purchase drinks, charged to your account
Nice view of the surrounding Lake Myvatn area..
This is as authentic an Iceland experience as you can have with a very reasonable price. About $45 per person, less for seniors and children.
Save your time and money to visit this geothermal hot spring, much better than the Blue Lagoon.

Beautiful setting, awesome landscape, spotlessly clean, lots of space, remote location so you really feel you're close to nature.
A once in a lifetime experience, but not 5/5 today though as there was noisy building work going on and a large crane and cement mixer which spoiled the view in one direction.
Ps you can hire towels and robes but the robes are not big enough for plus size people.

A couple of hours at Myvatn baths is a great way to unwind and soothe weary legs after exploring the local area. We booked for 2 hours before closing but this wasn't long enough in the baths (we lost a good 15 minutes checking in, changing & showering and then we had the closing whistle blown at least 15 minutes before closing time). But the time we spent in the baths was great. You can prepay for drinks to enjoy while soaking up the view of the lake. Water is warm - but cools as you move towards the lake view area. There was a small pool advertised at 40C, which we found to be a great place to swap tales with other travellers, but felt a lot cooler than that. The main pool was definitely warmer. If you haven't been to a thermal bath in Iceland, this is a great choice. Its no way as vast as the Blue Lagoon but is a lot less touristy.

Nice place but not my favorite spa. Certainly the baths are very nice but the changing rooms are small, old and more or less dirty. Some pools do much better for much less. The site is being expanded , I hope that in 2025 there will be changing rooms up to the asking price!

We loved our visit to the Myvatn Nature Baths! We booked for the earliest possible time in the morning which was lovely because the place was so quiet and empty when we arrived. When the baths did start to fill up more, there was still more than enough room for everyone to have their own comfortable space to enjoy. We loved that the baths go right up to the land - really making you connect with nature. The one downside is that we had our young daughter with us and the changing rooms are not hated so when we arrived in the morning it was quite cold for her with showering, etc. before getting into the baths. Not a big deal but I wish I would have known so I could have planned for it better.

This was our 3rd time here and possibly the best yet. Decided to have food first and we had the vegan soup which was fantastic.
Changing rooms were absolutely spotless, along with plenty of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.
Once outside there is building work currently happening nothing was happening on the day that we were there we couldn’t see much as there was so much steam coming up from the hot water. This was the hottest the water it has been which felt amazing.
The sauna hot and clean all in all cannot wait for our 4th visit.

Hello, and thanks to mousers11 for the post. My wife has limited walking ability and I worry about steps in a wet environment. Did this pool have a pool chair or lift? Their website does not describe that. Thank you.
Written April 11, 2022
I don't recall there being a pool chair or lift. There were stairs to get to the pool, and I can't recall if there was a ramp. To get in the pool, I believe you get inside by a ramp that has handrails and rubber mats on it so it's not slippery in the water. The Myvatn Nature baths did not have as many amenities or features as the Blue Lagoon. So if Myvatn doesn't have accessibility that works for you, the Blue Lagoon may have it.

Hi guys.
Is it safe to put my money and passport in a locker. Is there any surveillance of the staff?
Or has a thief easy access to a ungarded lockerroom?
Regards
Schliek
Written March 3, 2022
I felt safe putting mine in the locker. The lockers have keys, and you will take the key and put int on your wrist. So the only way someone can steal your stuff is by breaking into the locker. The locker rooms were crowded when I was there, so it would be obvious if someone were breaking in.
I did not see any staff surveying the area.
