About
We are a small family business including about 35 Siberian Huskies, grandmothers, grandfathers, our children, Bergþóra, Sæmi and more close family members. All of our dogs are friendly (sometimes a little bit to friendly...), they love to exercise and the attention they get from our guests. It is great to be out on the trail with our amazing sled dogs in the beautiful nature close by Lake Myvatn, North Iceland. In winter we offer dog sledding tours and Kennel visits, in summer we offer cart rides and kennel visits.

I had a great time doing a snow mobile and dog sled combo. It's a family owned business and Saemundur and his wife were very welcoming and great. You are able to meet your Siberian Husky sled dogs before and after the ride which made the overall experience even better. They have full gear in case you don't show up prepared with winter waterproof gear. It included a full warm waterproof jumpsuit, full helmet with face shield, gloves, and water proof insulated boots. The total trip lasted about 3 hours and the combo package allows you to experience both the snow mobile and the sled ride. Keep in mind these are dogs and some are being trained so don't expect the dogs to go very fast all the time, it's a long ride and they due tend to get more tired and distracted towards the end but part of the enjoyment for me was seeing how each of these dogs had it's own personality. After the ride it was more time for petting and we were invited into the family's home for some warm coffee/cocoa. It's in the Lake Myvatn area about 20 minutes from the Fosshotel weather permitting. I would highly recommend the combo if you haven't experienced either one.

If you wish to add a unique experience to your trip to North Iceland, then Snow Dogs certainly delivers a great experience, and then some more.

They operate from the farm Heiði, in the Mývatn area, with easy access from the main road. I went there in January with my girlfriend who is a huge dog lover.

The whole experience was professional and well organized from start to finish. The dogs were all friendly, beautiful and very well trained. Bergþóra told us all there is to know about them, then took us out to the sled.

We spent an hour or so flying through the surrounding frozen wetlands. The dogs were much faster than I have imagined, but we felt safe all the time. Bergþóra was controlling the dogs like a pro and I even had a chance to mush the sled with her from the back at one point.

After the trip, we could meet all her dogs once again and had a chance to ask questions and take plenty of pictures.

Bergþóra and her dogs offer a breathtaking adventure made even better by the beauty of the Mývatn area as your background. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience on your travels, look no further.

This review is over due, but we went on a snow cart ride in mid-september at Snow Dogs. I was kind of skeptical since there was no snow but we had a fantastic time! We got to meet all of the dogs at the kennel and learn their different idiosyncrasies before we went on our ride. Then we watched the dogs get selected and harnessed to the cart, watch them barely able to contain their excitement until we were off and then they were completely focused and silent. It was a really cool experience and I'm sure it would only be better if there is snow on the ground and you're actually on a dog sled. We had a fantastic time on the cart and got to meet 9 week old puppies before we left. The dogs are obviously adored by their owners and so well cared for! It was a great experience and and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Lake Myvatn region of Iceland!

FABULOUS! Gliding through the snow and ice - dogs barking and joyously running in unison... It felt like this could have been 100 years ago, or 100 years in the future. Magnificent. Sunny day (lucky), Happy Dogs, Great Hosts.

This experience was nothing short of incredible! It was by far the best activity we did in Iceland and it was our third time here! The dogs were so cute and we had ample time to play with them. We both sat in the front while Sæmi drove the sled. On the way back my husband even had a chance to drive! 100% do this while in Iceland!
After our ride the road conditions were not suitable to driving due to strong winds and snow. Sæmi and Bergbóra invited us into their home to weather out the storm. We met the whole family including grandma and grandpa! They cooked us a lovely Icelandic meal followed by a delicious cake! Once the roads were better Sæmi drove out in front of us until we safely got to the main road. This was an experience of a lifetime and we owe it all to them!

This was a last minute splurge, and we don't regret the mini $$$$ "investment" to go dog sledding in Iceland. We loved every second of the ride, the dogs were awesome, and we even got snuggle time with them afterwards (kids loved it). I only wish that the ride was a bit longer, but I really appreciate that the dogs are cared for by the owners. It was refreshing to experience how much the dogs love to go for a run! Excellent.

My wife and I have just returned from Northern Iceland ,Lake Myvatn area and without a doubt the highlight was a dog sleigh ride over the hills behind Vallholt Farm.
The family obviously love their dogs so much and you can see that in the way they look after them.
The tour of the farm is a must and you learn so much.
The ride was spectacular and the views so beautiful.
The family spent so much time with us explaining the breed, feeding, training etc I could go on.
If you are in the Lake Myvatn area this is a must as part of your travel plans.
Even in the summer when you can still enjoy the views as they use wheels on the sleighs.
Finally, the dogs are so friendly we wanted to take them home with us.
Families with little ones' should have no worries.
Enjoy the fun and views.

Thank you Bergþóra. A central part of planning our visit to Iceland was to go to Snow Dogs on 21/09. This time of year we knew that there is no snow here but we had a ride in the Husky Cart which is nonetheless a great experience. The team are raring to go and the chance to take the cart out is obviously a treat for them as well as us. On arrival we saw the kennels and yards which are well constructed, designed to drain and maintain plus a grassed area at the end - must be canine heaven! We were shown everything from their food, harnesses and kennels (they even have their own individual eating space so they can do so uninterrupted). We met many of the dogs prior to our ride and all were so friendly and enthusiastic. Bergþóra knows the characteristics lineage / genealogy of each in the pack and the dogs are obviously adored. Wear good footwear and you'll be provided with warm waterproof overalls.

Wow is how I will start this review. What a beautiful experience not only the dogs but also the hosts. I’m an avid animal lover so was apprehensive if the animals would be cared for before arriving; but I should not have been worried at all. The animals are loved and looked after as well as a beloved pet. The dogs are so friendly and love a cuddle. Before the ride you get to meet the pack and have a super cuddle with them. Then you have the experience of a lifetime sledging across the stunning terrain. When you return you get to cuddle and love the animals again and thank them for the experience. Both hosts are so warm and welcoming and are happy to show you around. The set up is very professional and this is one thing I will return to Iceland to do again. What an experience and I highly recommend whole heartedly. Only thing is if you don’t love dogs this is not an experience for you. But if you do love them like us it will be the highlight of your trip to Iceland 🇮🇸. Great dogs and great hosts and trust me the dogs love it as much as you will. Book quickly as they are not an overly commercial organization about making excess money and running the dogs many times a day - they do one run a day and that speaks volumes to me. Beautiful beautiful beautiful is my final statement. Thanks from rachel and Marco x

Absolutely loved this experience, getting to meet the dogs and go sledding. Only two couples go at one time, so it feels very personal and the couple who run it are great to chat to. The dogs are extremely friendly and very well trained.
