We were In Provoo Old town and I like walking up small side streets in places like this and came across the Devil's stairs. Legend says the devil build these step's. If this is true the devil need's to work on his stair building skills instead of bothering people. Go see, its a fun to see thing's like this.

These steps ( I think stairs are more of an indoor thing) have a long tradition that the devil herself created these steps climbing up to taunt the church goers. They are not actually steps but rocky formations that form a gradual path to, or from, the church where the devil herself was said to climb up to taunt the church goers that go to church. On my visit I did not witness the devil herself but I did witness some church going types who were going to church in the church. Had I witnessed the devil I would have asked her if she did create the so called " Devils stairs" . Thoroughly recommended stairs to visit.

We saw the Devil's Stairs on the touring map and went looking for them. When we arrived at the spot we kind of figured which rock was it, but they were not signposted and were not very impressive.

Just a bit of rock shaped kind of like couple steps of stairs. Had to look around if this is really it. Not worth a visit at all.

This area of Porvoo is really cute with the yellow and red houses and alleys. The stairs are not maintained and extremely difficult to climb up during winter time.

The Devil's Stairs are just some natural rocks that form a path. I'm sure you could fashion such a path almost anywhere. The legend that the Devil formed this does nothing to make it more interesting.

Don't let the name put you off - this is an easy walk and there are lovely views at the top. Well worth the effort on a fine day.

Really nice and scenic, quite nice and not touristy at all. Be sure not to rush the beautiful old town

This section of naturally-formed rock is said, locally, to resemble a staircase. According to local folklore, this staircase was actually the handiwork of the Devil.
While this is an interesting bit of local colour, the staircase itself is beyond minor, a slab of rock with a few ridges in it. There must be millions of more spectacular rock formations which no one ever thought to call an attraction.

It is wonderful how the residents of Porvoo used this natural rock formation as a stairway from one part of town to another.
