About
Ribe Art Museum was establishedin 1891 in one of the town’s most impressive buildings, the cotton fabric manufacturer Balthazar Giørtz’s luxury villa, built in 1864. It is one of the oldest art museums in Denmark. And with a fascinating collection of Danish art from 1750 to 1950, it flourishes with masterpieces from the great groundbreaking periods of Danish art history. Ribe Art Museum reopened in 2010 after a thorough restoration of theinterior and exterior. Today it distinguishes itself as a modern museum – a unique space where art, architecture and landscape combine in a beautiful, atmospheric environment.

Not much to see
Jun 2020
Actually they have big collection of art but at the moment was open only first floor with Denmark classical paintings. So it was bit boring. When they open whole house then I try to revisit again

Interesting Art Gallery and riverside gardens
Sep 2018 • Solo
Walking through Ribe, the path to the river was blocked, with a detour through the gardens of the Ribe Kunstmuseum (art gallery).
Stunning works of art, in very pretty and relaxing manicured riverside gardens.
Recommended for those wanting to get away from it all!

Great little museum

This is a gem for anyone with art interests. It has recently been refurbished and the displays and facilities are very 21st century.
The art is mostly Danish for the collection but they have regular visiting exhibitions.
The coffee shop is brilliant and there are outside tables and chairs with a great view down to the river.

Fantastic gallery and building. Really some great masterpieces in here - from Danish Golden Age, Skaagen impressionists and some more recent works, including some paintings from Ribe.

Excellent gallery with the best of Danish art
Jun 2016 • Business
I was there just as the new Danish Golden age exhibition was starting. The characterful gallery is a great setting for pictures of this era, and I particularly liked the portrait of Constantin Hansen by Christen Købke and the little girl writing by Christen Dalsgaard. Also, pictures by Skagen painters like Krøyer and Anna & Michael Ancher. Lovely riverside location, and well worth a café stop.

Worth a stop on the way to the Viking Center nextdoor

Although we were getting a bit glassy-eyed and foot-weary, we took in the Ribe Kuntsmuseum, the local art museum housed in a handsome Dutch Renaissance mansion built in 1864 for a wealthy cotton manufacturer. He and his family only occupied it for a couple of decades; it became a museum in 1891. By big-city standards, the collection of Danish sculpture and painting, from the mid-18th century on, struck us as modest, focusing mostly on the work of painter Kristian Zahrtmann and his students, who were active in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Zahrtmann painted in an Impressionist plein-aire style, favoring sunny Italy as a location.

An excellent art museum

This is a good representation of national and regional painters. It has been recently restored and is a great physical facility.
We enjoyed that it was a small collection as museums go, and had a good representation of world class painters.
The garden outside is an added bonus.
