Ceramica Multicolor is in the small village of San Antoni Palopo on Lake Atitlan. Land on the docks and go right up the hill. Nice walk on your way to Ceramica Multicolor. Handmade and glazed pottery, beautiful!

Beautiful pieces! Quiet an experience. Many options for gifts and an insight tour to learn about the pottery process

San Antonio Palopo is the home of the beautiful pottery that you see all around Guatemala for sale.
Here is the village where the pottery is made. To travel to the town you will need to get a taxi or a pickup from Panajachel. I think you can also travel there by private lancha, it is not on the regular routes. It take about 15 mins in a pickup for 5Q each, leaving from the church.
When we arrived to San Antonio we met one of the weavers, Liza, who took us down the hill from the church to one of the pottery workshops. Here we got a tour in Spanish of the process from start to finish, getting to see people at work at each stage. We were able to walk around the different areas of the workshop and got to see the level of detail and skill that goes into making the pottery. Each piece is hand painted and signed. It was really impressive.
We finished in their store with a huge selection of kitchen and decorative ornaments. There was also a selection of seconds, products with small flaws for cheaper prices. You can get a mug for about 45Q, about €5/$6 for example and the more you buy the better deal you get. We got our purchases packed and wrapped which ensured they arrived back to Ireland in perfect condition by taking it through in our carry on luggage.
It was great to get to the source and meet the people making these beautiful pieces and also to cut out the middleman so we got a great deal and so did the producers! I think there are a number of potters in the village but these are the ones we visited and bought from. Highly recommended.

Hola!

Saludos!
