    So worth it!
These falls are stunning, especially the 3rd one, rainbow falls. This is about a 20 min drive from Tilaran. We parked at the restaurant/office because our car was already getting beat up on the potholes up to that point. We walked to the second parking lot which took about 20 min through farmland/cattle. The trek to the falls is beautiful, and the falls are breathtaking. As people said, the steps and trails are hand made and can be steep but we didn’t feel they were dangerous at all. Obviously it’s not accesible to those with mobility issues. We enjoyed swimming in the pool of rainbow falls. So refreshing! We were the only ones there other than the iguanas 😆, and felt that the $17 was well worth it. Not touristy at all.

Not great access, steps man made and uneven but worth it.
En route from Arenal to Monteverde, this is a dream stop. Charming cafe, drinks, snacks, a bargain 17 dollars after the touristic theft at La Fortuna. Nature at its best. Not for those wih accessibility issues, but a good stomp down and up, we went from the restaurant, as it stretched the muscles after the pot hole drive of 2 plus hours. Magical. It is simply magical.

Amazing waterfalls along the road to Monteverde
Amazing waterfalls and owner. We stopped by not necessarily expecting to get a chance to go, or going on a long hike to get to the falls based on other reviews. The owner saw our sedan and drove us down to the main parking on his truck and picked us up at the end. The hike seemed long going down, but wasn't as bad coming back up. We did 3 of the 4 possible waterfalls. We didn't make it to the last one, but the 3 that we saw were amazing. The hike to rainbow falls was definitely worth it.

Travelling to Monteverde we did an impromptu stop here. Unfortunately the owner is happy to take $17 per person but invest none of it in a safe and secure road or steps down to the waterfalls. In some parts there are no handrails at all with sheer drops alongside slippy steps. The handrails were pieces of rubber tubing - I’m not sure would stop anyone falling if the worse were to happen. The facilities for changing and resting were basic and dirty too.

Don’t even attempt the drive down in anything other than a decent 4x4 - we started to drive our hire car but gave up and parked up on the verge as the road was very steep and deeply rutted.

How this experience could be so much better if properly managed.

Very expensive (nearly $60 for 2 adults and 2kids) for a look at 4 waterfalls. Yes, pretty but no way you could swim under them as was suggested at the booking office -left our 12 and 10year olds very disappointed. Fairly dangerous too....drive down a very bumpy track to wet, poorly maintained paths with broken handrail posts. Some parts unpassable. We were so disappointed, wish we hadn't bothered stopping. Cafe at the office also very expensive for what it was.

La Fortuna waterfall was a much better experience.

This was my favorite thing that I have done throughout my two months in Costa Rican! It is so beautiful with 4 gorgeous waterfalls. It is hidden and when we were there, we did not see anyone else! You get to see 4 waterfalls for only $12. It was definitely the best deal that we have had in Costa Rica! Great swimming and views. I highly recommend!

Make reservations before you go. I believe it was only 2000 colones. Falls are a ways out of town. The first sign was easy to stop, go right at the sign. We missed the next very small sign on the left and ended up traveling some very steep roads. It looks like they have been trying to improve the road and parking to the falls. Park in the wide spot at top and walk down. It is a step decent. We did not travel any further since my husband was not able to make the walk down.

A truly off-the-beaten path experience. We went in the rain, which meant we had the place totally to ourselves. A steep and slippery climb down (and then back up) was not easy but very fun! The road down was almost as much of an adventure as the hike, so definitely don't go without a 4x4. Infrastructure is crumbling and the only working bathroom is at the bottom by the tallest falls. Go for the adventure and the views, and to support this little family establishment.

We didn't plan to go to these falls, but are we glad we did! The $15 per person was well worth it, although I would not attempt this unless you are in good shape. Also, the drive down to the falls was a bit treacherous. We walked the second half (but we didn't have four-wheel drive). All of the falls are beautiful in their own right. The most spectacular is the rainbow falls, which is the second from the bottom. It is 75 metres high and falls into a pool that you can swim in. The last falls are at the bottom, and they are in my opinion the most beautiful. Be warned though that if you go all the way to the bottom, then you will have a very rigorous trek back up the steep steps that the owners have built into the path. My guess is that the trek back up is about 250 metres pretty much at the maximum angle that steps can be. One last thing - the owner said that it would take an hour and twenty minutes to go to the bottom and come back up. That may be true if you are 25 years old and you walk fast. It took us 2.5 hours to do the whole thing, with about twenty minutes of resting altogether. Overall, this is a beautiful adventure and this stop is well worth it.

I found this place looking for things to do in the area. The place is run by people from the area, which makes it a real chance to get in touch with locals... The person at the reception explained us the options (full walk or walk + horseback riding), no pressure on which to get - really nice! ... At the end selected the walk + horseback riding, which turned to be a great choice, since even in the map the trails are short, the area is really steep and walk back to the entrance requires to be in great shape (added to the hot/humid weather), besides, the trail for horses takes you through a different route with great views... A must if around.
