Near Patan Durbar Square - busy shopping area with loads of small shops selling all sorts. No entrance fee.....fun to walk around.

Must visit place. I was born and raised in and around Mangal Bazar. Oozed history and is like an open museum till date. The architecture and the history is highly fascinating with stories that I love to hear/read even today.

It has a huge variety of different shops and is popular with the locals. Surprisingly, in spite of its proximity to Patan's Durbar Square, it's not overly tourist-oriented.

This is a typical local market area where you can buy everything for the household as well as clothing and shoes. Patan is known as the place for shoes so there is a great variety of shoe shops. It is similar to Asan in Kathmandu but there isn't as much traffic which makes for a more relaxing shopping experience. At the entrance of the market there is a bakery where you can buy Nepali style donuts, also there is a shop selling local snacks such as titaura(sweet-spicy dried fruit) and masala potato chips.

I loved walking around this area and go shopping. There are rows of fun things to shop. YOU MUST bargain and have fun with it. The locals shop here and you can find nice locally made things as well as the Chinese and Indian imports.

This is one of the popular local bazaars around Kathmandu. It's adjacent to Patan Durbar Square, so it's easy to access. Shops include cloth and clothing, tailors, household goods, jewelry, puja items, etc. There are also many street vendors along the bazaar. At the end near the square, there are also some that sell items of tourist interest. There is a large temple in the middle of the bazaar.

Worthwhile to walk through. Did not spend a lot of time here on our walk to the golden temple. The area is undergoing rebuilding after the earthquake and is still under a major refit.

Mangal Bazaar is a treat for people watching. Located in the vicinity of the Patan durbar sqaure and lined by streets of vendors saling shoes to gold necklaces, this place offers visitors a perfect getaway for few hours. You can enter one of many rooftop cafes to get a beautiful view of the square and then step out into the bustling street to explore temples, monasteries, public watertaps, roadside statues, etc. Go west and you will get to Patan sundhara and other heritage sites. Go east and you walk towards the main street of the valley road network. Spend hours exploring and seeing fun things.
