This is the more wooded and natural area of the wetlands. Park below the prison, off of the same road. There are trails through and around; but give yourself some time if you want to travel the loop. There is signage by Gateway park showing you the possible routes. Joggers will be seen scurrying through the vegetation. The paved bike trail follows the brush for a while and then veers south following the canal. You can cross the canal in several places and drop down into the woods from the pavement. You can also hike on the opposite side of the river. But know that it's on reservation land.

Took a long walk in the east wetlands area. The trail was well maintained and easy walk. Some shade but take water and head covering.

This a move at your speed park Start with dipping your pole in the water with hope of a large fish. Massive, great detail play ground. Just enjoy the National beautiful sunshine! Bike trails were robust, with oh my I can’t do this to zipping past you. We would have done more trails but diabetic gets ya. Just relax and enjoy
