    Scenic, Accessible Recreation Area
This is a very nice linear park in the downtown historic district of Yuma. Facilities include a picnic area with grills, fishing pier, playground, beach and restrooms. Parking is free. We stayed at the Garden Inn adjacent to the park and were able to walk the paved trail along the river to the Colorado River State Historic Park and to restaurants on Main St. There is a restored vintage steam locomotive on display next to the hotel and also several small museums nearby in the downtown area such as Sanguinetti House and Yuma History Museum. Gateway Park connects to East and West Wetland Parks so it's possible to walk a couple of miles along the river. Wheelchair access is very good. The Territorial Prison Historic Park is just east of Gateway Park and within walking distance for some people, but the trail was uphill and not paved. We wanted to walk the whole distance of the river trail but it started raining so we had to cut it short. We enjoyed it and would like to return soon.

    Very relaxing place to walk
Very relaxing walk in both the east and west directions. Very well maintained, not trashy. Some wildlife, although not a lot. You can watch the long trains traverse the high bridge and wave to the engineer. There are informative signs along the pathways, and even a small beach if you want to swim under the bridge.

A good place to stratagize the sights to see in Yuma
We traveled to Yuma in an RV and found this park to be a good spot to stop and plan our sightseeing adventure. We had no problems with any of the people in the park, even meeting some fellow RV's who were doing the same as us. The prison is right across the road (altho I recommend driving there) Nice view of the "Ocean to Ocean bridge. A nice shady spot to park while walking through down town (Don't miss the story about the plane & car in city hall!) also pivot point is just a short walk away. Again, we found this a nice place to stop and plan that (and the next day's adventure)

We had packed a picnic and stopped here midday while visiting the area. The park was quite large, and is within walking distance of the wetlands and the territorial prison. We enjoyed watching the trains pass by while we relaxed on a bench with our lunch. The park appeared to be quite well used by locals and visitors alike, with walking and biking trails along the river, a playground, and mature trees for shade.

Very pretty with the river running by, but it is being taken over by homeless, I saw 3 guys sleeping on the grass, fair amount of trash, some drug deal happening in the back lot, and the bathrooms were a mess, toilets didn't work. Very sad that the citizens spend so much money to have a nice park only to allow it to be ruined. My husband and I questioned wether we should walk around or not.

The park is a nice greenspace with both sun ad shade to walk, picnic, put your feet in the water, check out the bridge and the occasional train. Good parking, including decent enough for an RV. We felt safe and did not see any homeless folks or untoward activity. It's near the old downtown of Yuma and a quick drive to the Territorial Prison. Yuma is filled with history and the park is a good spot for getting your bearings, past and present.

Beautiful area walk , play , picnic, wade in the water , dogs were playing. Cottonwood area is nice with plenty of rest benches along any direction you walk. Encourage you to look up the history it’s interesting. Great choice if you enjoy outdoor activities.

We ventured both directions in this Park to check out the sites along the river. We especially enjoyed our walk to the North under the bridge along the banks or the river. A historic trail that is easy to walk on. Although it says on the sign that horses are allowed here we did not see them or any sign that they had been there in the most recent past.

It was a beautiful day and the birds were all around us as we walked.

Lots of "homeless" roam about in this park. One decided me and my family shouldn't be in his way on the pier. When he became persistent and threatening, we left. The police we nice but largely ineffective.

The entry to this park is beneath the 8 freeway and the Ocean to Ocean bridge. It's pretty much below the historical sights up on the bluff and is a good entry for walks and bike rides along the river, either direction. There are some opportunities for picnicking as well as water sports. But when I was here, there were few people actually using the river.

The water is clean, shallow along the shore and fun... The City works hard to keep the Park Clean, but sometimes People using the park forget to clean up their mess. Over all We will come back to Gateway Park to Enjoy a day of FUN.
