About
We are the Museum Activity and Heritage Center for the United States Army Yuma Proving Ground. The most common comment we hear from our guests is that they had no idea. They had no idea such a nice museum was out here and they had no idea how much the Yuma Proving Ground has done over the years. We are located in Building 2 on the Colonel George Howard Cantonment area within YPG. This is a 14,000 square foot facility that covers our history from General George Patton's WWII training area known as the Desert Training Center to the present. Located in the former Post Headquarters building, we have fourteen exhibit galleries with a wide variety of information presented in many different formats. A small theater shows a 27 minute film about YPG and two of our galleries are commemorations of 9-11 and the 50th Commemoration of the War in Vietnam. There are security requirements to get on post, so stop by the visitor control center on Imperial Dam Road before coming on post. They will want to see your Drivers License, the Registration for your vehicle along with proof of insurance. If you visit on a Friday, the VSS is closes, so have the Security guard at the Howard Access Control Point check these items and issue your visitor pass. There are places to eat here as well. I look forward to seeing you out here.

entry to base is closed to visitors due to COVID
Sep 2021
But the check in area just before entering the bas has a number of vehicles on display A slight detour of the main road is worth the effort.

There are many military vehicles as well as missiles and unique weaponry. A great place to visit for the military enthusiast as well as children. You can walk up to the vehicles and such. A great experience.

Good Place

It is a good place to walk, relax, take the children for a walk and share a good meal outdoors with the family.

See the museum not just the tanks
Jan 2020
If you like armor and missiles, there's an interesting open air display of them down the road from the base, but don't just stop there. Bring your driver's license and proof of insurance, go on base and spend an hour touring the proving grounds museum. Military history fans will love learning about the base's role in training troops in WWII for desert combat and testing all sorts of military technology and hardware. The exhibits are a bit shop-worn, but the content is worth your time.

My husband had a great time with his friend here.
He is planning on another visit as he loves the history and information available.
He even bought a book while he was there on the history.

Small museum, but so much information
Feb 2020
We were here a couple of years ago but wanted to visit again while in the area. Sure wasn't disappointed. From the outside it looks small but several rooms to check out. It was nice to see some added displays from our last visit, moving tribute to 9-11. Be sure and take in the video, about 28 minutes, it tells and explains a lot. Admission is free to all, be sure to stop in the visitor center on the way to the base to get you pass for your visit.

Why test bridges in the desert?

Eye-opening answers to this plus many other inventions and discoveries made by our military over the past 70+ years. We had a guided tour that was outstanding - so much history and such knowledgeable docents. A must see in Yuma!

Outstanding tour through the history of WWII and beyond
Jan 2020
We had a guided tour of the Museum and it was outstanding. The guide knew so much about the Yuma Proving Grounds, it's founding, history, use during WWI, and beyond. Highly recommend, and you don't have to be a military buff to enjoy.
