About
Home to the treasured Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground, the 110‐acre West Wetlands Park is a well beloved jewel of the citizens of Yuma. The 30 acres of the “lower bench” are restored with native trees and grasses and offer beautiful walking paths for people to enjoy. The additional 30 acres of the “upper bench” are developed with a pond, picnic ramadas, playground areas and more.

- vite44Regina, Canada53 contributionsHumming birds. We went late morning and we were very pleased to see humming birds in two different locations on our walk along the Colorado river. There were also other birds singing there heads off. Quail running in the bushes. Very relaxing place to linger.Visited February 2020Written February 28, 2020
- MtBakerFarmEastsound, Washington39 contributionsSuch a great park!We almost passed this gem up! This park has so many attractions, but best are the many easy walking trails. We walked our two dogs several days, always a new trail. There is also a great kids play area with mini zip line, a small lake with ducks and swans, a solar garden, hummingbird garden, disc golf course, and we did not see everything. The trails have lots of great informational signs about the wetlands. If you bring your smart phone loaded with a QR scanner, you can listen to recorded videos about wildlife and plant life. There are bathrooms (minimal). This park is built on a reclaimed landfill, which is just so amazing when you look at how far they have come. Highly recommend a visit (or many) to this great gem in Yuma.Visited March 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten March 9, 2022
- Paul F99 contributionsYuma's Garden ParkThe blooms in early April were phenomenal. The Palo Verde trees were in full yellow bloom with bottle bushes, wildflowers and blooming cactus. In addition to the pleasant pond, this park had a nice shaded walking area along the river you could launch a kayak or wade in the water. The park is very clean and orderly. A part of the part this year in Early April along the river was closed due to a fire hazard.Visited April 2022Written April 15, 2022
- Zoom_GottiHenderson, Nevada1,517 contributionsWest Wetlands Is A Nicely Created Family Fun Section Along The RiverIf you've come to Yuma for a little R and R from colder climates, you might want to spend a good half day here. This section of the wetlands along the Colorado is Yuma's recreational centerpiece. It's still being developed but you'll find a fishing pond, plenty of beach space, play areas for children and river entry spots. The hike and bike track also passes through here and will connect you with the city historical area as well as the more natural east wetlands area. There's also a more botanical area with nature trails and information plaques. You'll find lots of walkers and cyclists, dog walkers, and a smattering of kayakers and fishers. Just remember, as you move into later Spring and, especially summer, it will be awfully hot here. So be careful.Visited March 2021Written March 17, 2021
- Karen F3 contributionsBeautiful parkThis park is well-maintained and felt safe. A lovely place to see and photograph wildlife and desert plants, along the Colorado River bank. Plenty of shady spots for relief from Yuma’s sun. We saw rabbits, ground squirrels, lizards, and quail. I grew up in Yuma before this park existed, and was thrilled to experience it while visiting decades after I moved to the east coast. Thank you, City of Yuma, for proving a nice place for residents and visitors to enjoy.Visited April 2021Traveled with friendsWritten April 5, 2021
- HansKwadendamme, The Netherlands2,906 contributionsMainly for family with childrenAlthough you can have a great walk along the Colorado river, the park is mainly indended to be visited by families with children as there are some playgrounds. We made the walk for birding and came across some burned area’s. On burned soil new growth will appear soon. There is a ramp to get your boat into the river. All in all a nice place to have a nice walk.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 4, 2023

The park is large, with extensive walking/biking trails bordering the Colorado River. Many informative interpretive signs and QRGs are scattered throughout. The stocked fishing pond is a lovely setting to while away some time birdwatching,, people watching , relaxing or picnicking. There’s also a very cool large playground for the younger set, and plenty of parking.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 27, 2023
- Susan HTacoma, Washington2,617 contributionsGreat OasisI’ve been here a few times and always find the park very tranquil. The walking paths are wonderful with some that are paved (around the pond) and others that are gravel (along the river). The paths along the river have educational signage about the plants and animals that live in the area. There are always birds in the pond and sometimes even pelicans who are making their way north or south. Just a peaceful place to take a stroll with the dog or have a picnic lunch.Visited December 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten February 4, 2022

Glad they cleaned out the area so it is no longer a homeless camp. Felt safe here after dark. Mix of families and individuals enjoying the cool evening. did see something ion the parking area that looked like maybe a drug deal. Car drove in and 3 young people walked over and exchanged something with the people in the car - then the car left HUM

No just a day park. But there is an RV park adjoining it.
