Drive, scoop, dig, dump...the real life version of what you used to do as a kid. We even have some games set up for you, like backhoe basketball. Enjoy the thrill ride of a lifetime and feel the power of controlling 40,000 lbs of steel. Find out why our heavy equipment playground is LOADS of FUN for ages 14 and up. We also can host groups and parties. All sessions are by reservation only. Big Toy Playgound is a seasonal operation: open March/April - October.

One of my dreams has been to do some of the heavy-earthmoving work that I see the people on Mythbusters do. AND I GOT TO SPEND 90 MINUTES DIGGING HOLES WITH A BACK HOE TODAY!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! Very professional staff, very helpful, very encouraging, very friendly... I can't think of enough good stuff to say. I literally can not imagine anyone EVER finding a reason to give these people less than five stars, or bullets, or whatever those things are! Juuuust sooooo muuuuuch fuuunnnn! (Note: reviewer is a retired rocket scientist. Really. I don't usually talk like this. See what happens when you do this?!?)

Big Toy Playground is so much fun! Beforehand, I wan't sure if I would like it, as I'm a woman over 70. I got on the Excavator, and my instructor explained to me exactly what I'd need to do. There was also a radio in the cab, so the instructor could keep giving me directions as I was running the machine. I didn't know if I could learn the controls, but I did, and it was a great time! I got to dig, stack tires and even try to pick up basketballs and put them in a can. I also got to spin the cab around like an amusement park ride. The activities were challenging, but what fun! If more women tried this, we might have more women construction workers. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting the area. It's right on the outskirts of Williams, so it's not a far drive from the Grand Canyon or Flagstaff.

Thanks for stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying the excavator at Big Toy Playground. We are glad it turned out to be a wonderful new experience for you. You prove that running equipment at Big Toy Playground is a great time, regardless of your age or gender. In fact, about half of our customers are women! We've got the loader, backhoe and skid steer that are also a lot of fun, so come see us again!

My boyfriend has wanted to do something like this for years. As it happened, we were traveling on the Grand Canyon Railroad and found this place. Even though it was snowy and cold (early January!) and there was not a lot of tourist business, the owners were so accommodating and the instructor arrived early just to make sure the equipment would start up. My bf had a blast - next time I need to sign up for the experience!

Driving the big equipment was so much fun. Was able to drive two pieces of equipment. The instructors were great and had me out loading dirt in just a few minutes. I recommend this for anyone who loves big equipment and loved playing with Tonka Toys.

I never thought I would have a chance to do operate an excavator like this. It was a really cool experience. Larry is very professional, a great instructor and he made it really enjoyable. It is easy to get to from Grand Canyon Village or Flagstaff. Great place to check one more thing off your bucket list.

My 16 yo son and I thought this might be a nice diversion...It was absolutely great! You get to operate one of the trucks you loved as a child. I did the excavator. It's like playing a life-sized video game. I've driven Ferraris, Porsches, M3s and S4s, but have never had so much fun at slow speeds. I enjoyed this so much that I either want a summer job on a construction site; or want to open my own BTP. I won't. So you have to go to Williams.
We brought a camera and they took lots of pictures and videos for us. They also use their own cameras and put the pictures on Facebook for you.
Nice people; wonderful time.

for my birthday my wife gave me 90 minutes on a john deere excavator at big toy playground east of williams. after about 10 minutes of instruction, i started digging and then stacked tires and then plucked basketballs off pylons to drop them in a 55-gallon drum. throughout, wade offered patient instruction via a walky talky. i would like to return to drive the huge front loader around the obstacle course.

leaving the yard, we drove the garland prairie loop back to I-40. this is a beautiful paved/unpaved road leading from old growth pine forests to prairie that becomes flood with run off. with no water about, the vast expanses were populated with healthy looking cows and calves and huge flocks of sheep guarded and herded by scruffy looking dogs. on the way home, we saw a flock which a vacquero told us numbered 1,500 being herded into what looked like a bait ball by dogs. evidently they were being moved to new pasturage.

returning home, we took the perkinsville road south out of williams. this, too, is a paved/unpaved road descending from fragrant pines to pinon-juniper to scrub and the mighty verde river, bridged at perkinsville. from there, the road winds along the mountain side to the gold king mine outside jerome. because a water pipe had ruptured, the saw mill was not operating so we elected to return another day. i think we could spend several day picking around the derelict trucks and equipment at the mine. looks like fun.

We love helping to celebrate special occasions at Big Toy Playground! We are so happy that you had a great time running the excavator as your birthday gift. As you noticed, the loader is also a blast, and we hope to see you again to try it out. How nice that you took the time to explore the back roads of Williams. There is so much that you don't see from I-40. Your descriptions of what you saw were fun to read, thanks for sharing. When you are in the area again, you may appreciate the Grand Canyon Caverns or the Planes of Fame museum.

We gave this a try not knowing quite what to expect, and are so glad we did! It's a bit pricey, but there's really nothing quite like it. We both did the excavator, and our instructor Wade was friendly and patient, guiding us through all the controls and ensuring we had a great time. We got to dig, stack tires, and play excavator basketball, which is exactly as fun as it sounds! We will definitely be back to try some of the other equipment.

I enjoyed my experience with Bigtoy Playground. I was on the backhoe. I learned the basic use of the equipment and then had a skill test. The instructor, Wade, was very laidback and helpful.
