We stopped by to see this museum, and since I have Kidney disease I was wearing my mask. I was told by the owner that no masks were worn there. I said that I prefer to wear my mask. He started to yell at me, and told me to get out. He pointed to another person who also had a mask on and told them to get out too. Everyone just left, including people who had just pulled up to visit the museum. Even the people who didn’t have a mask on. I asked him why he was so mean, he just yelled and said he wasn’t mean. Then called me the c word. There is plenty to see on art 66 without taking this abuse.

Terrible. One person in our party was recovering from Covid and we all were wearing masks. The owner came out and yelled at us for wearing masks and literally kicked us out. Told us we were fools for wearing masks. He started following us out like another reviewer posted. He had security cameras around and then came out of a room and whisked us out. I too had heard of this but never experienced it first hand with being kicked out of an establishment. Very sad. But what we did see was just old items from the 50s-60s—like an old cash register and old license plates. So we didn’t miss much.

I tried to go in to see if he had these husky signs for sale in the actual shop part bc my service dog is a husky mix. Pete the owner shooed me off saying no pets. I'm a disabled veteran with PTSD & said my dog was a service dog & not a pet. He called me a bitch & said his wife was allergic, which I informed him that per the ADA allergies is not an excuse for denying a service animal. Again he called me a bitch & said my dog wasn't wearing a vest. I also informed him per the ADA service dogs aren't required to have signage. I couldn't even disclose the 2 question rule as he postured & called me names. At one point I was trying to pull up the law for him but he physically tried to push me out of the building. Once he pushed me off he slammed the garage door to make sure he could pick & choose who could come in.
As I was leaving a Yelp review there were several other patrons who said during COVID he denied them access if they were wearing masks. Another said he denied due to race. So this owner seems to have no issues breaking the ADA multiple times. So I filed an ADA claim against him with the DOJ. Others should follow suit.
Edit: came back when door was opened (he thought I wasn't going to come back) to take a picture of his allergy & no pets sign. Wife was sitting there unaffected of my service dog being on the other side of the building for 5-10 min which her husband claimed she'd die if my service dog stepped foot in that establishment.

Wow. I have read stories about people being incredibly rude about masks before but this was my first time encountering it. The disconnect about personal freedom was astounding. Don't wear your mask... fine, nothing I can do about that. But I have the choice to wear of not wear one if I want to. It's the hypocrisy of it that continues to astonish me. As for this owner in particular. He came out looking for a fight. We were content to walk away peacefully but he kept going on and on about how we were the idiots who believed in something that "wasn't true." He pushed and pushed continuing his combative attitude in front of our young children while we were walking away. It was a great learning opportunity for our kids about common courtesy. So I guess, thanks for that rude dude. Since I can't choose 0 starts the one star was for that.

The museum is not worth the hatred and racism. The owner told us to take our masks off in the store. We were uncomfortable with that since it was crowded and so we left. The owner gave us a hard time about it and said “it’s my store and I can tell you not to wear masks” he said they were stupid and “stupido” so both me and my Mexican American boyfriend (who was speaking to him in English) could understand…

The worst! My wife has cancer and her treatment has made her immunocompromised, so she must wear a mask, as do I so I keep her safe from germs and viruses. The man there yelled at her, and then me, as we started to enter, saying nobody with a mask was allowed. We tried to call Collin but he wouldn’t listen. Absolute JERK!

The owner was very anti mask! Started swearing and going on about not having to wear one in his museum. Was very angry about the mask situation. Since my husband and I are both in health care (he is a respiratory therapist) we have a different opinion about wearing masks. Very uncomfortable and I ended up just walking out☹️

Wow! The guy came out and told my husband he couldn’t come in with a face mask! Seriously! My husband is a high risk cancer patient and was told he could not enter with a face mask!

The place looks neat from the outside, built in a building similar to a garage. I walk in and see many signs and whatnot, and fascinated, I pull out my phone and snap a few pictures. Suddenly a man, which I assume to be Pete, storms out of the doorway and starts screaming at me. I start crying and my father walks over. Pete starts screaming at my father, asking his why he never taught his b*tch daughter to read and I should just use my f*cking eyes. There was a sign on the wall on a post it note saying “no photos” but in a sign shop, I missed it. The police told us they’ve had many other incidents similar to this. I definitely do NOT recommend going here unless you want to be screamed at.

Too bad Pete's Gas Station Museum is not family friendly. While visiting Williams, my young daughter wanted to see Route 66 and take some photographs for her grandfather who was ill back at home. Unfortunately, the first place we came across after leaving our hotel was Pete's Gas Station Museum. She walked inside and noticed the old signs and memorabilia. While looking around, she didn't notice the handwritten signs about not taking pictures. The owner started yelling and swearing at her, even as she tried to apologize. When she came out crying, I went inside to see what had happened. The owner told me in front of her that I should teach her to read, then called me an a-hole and told me to "get the hell out" of his business. My daughter was so upset that she wouldn't go in any other in town or even take pictures of the outsides, for fear of making more people mad at her. We ended up leaving town with only the pictures from Pete's, which are all bad memories for her. Needless to say, Pete's Gas Station Museum gives a bad name to an otherwise charming Williams, AZ. AVOID Pete's if you have children.

Good morning. What is the history behind Pete’s Gas Station?
Written January 4, 2024
We get into town around 6pm - is this attraction open in the evenings? Having trouble finding hours. Thank you!
Written September 3, 2016
Sorry, I don't know the hours, but would recommend seeing it during the day. It only takes a few minutes to wander through.

Is the hot tub open year round?
Written January 18, 2015
It's an attraction not a hotel. I'm not aware of a hotel with the same name in williams.
