Great camping area
Dec 2020 • Couples
We drove up to the regional park to camp for a few days. The camping spots are nice and spacious. There are fire pits, bbq grills and picnic tables. There’s lots of public bathrooms. We also did the waterfall trail but it was dry. Still a nice trail to do. It’s only about 2 miles long. Half of it is paved with seating benches. The whole park looked very well taken care of.

Love this park!
Mar 2020 • Friends
Can’t say enough about this park. Roads are paved which makes it a nice drive with tons of areas for picnicking and endless hiking trails. Stayed at the Willow Campground for tent camping. This campground was great. So well maintained with very nice gravel tent pads, concrete picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Some site do have a structure to provide shade over the table, probably best to call when you reserve so they can tell you which one. Bathrooms were super clean and new. Showers were spotless and spacious with individual private rooms. Firewood is for sale with the attendant that drives through the grounds for $7. Being so close to the valley this was a great escape.

Not a park for dogs
Mar 2020 • Solo
We live in Tucson and are aware of the dangers of snakes. This park has no area to walk dogs other than the side of the road where the desert weeds are high and where snakes take shelter. The hiking trails are narrow and also overgrown with scrub brush. It’s a wonderful park for humans just not pets.

Great Hiking...
Mar 2020 • Friends
I’m partial to hiking in the East valley but was presently surprised to hike the Mesquite Canyon Trail in the White Tank Mtns. Clean well marked trails. Beautiful views and doesn’t take long to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. I’ll definitely go back.

Must see
Feb 2020
This is such a must see and do if you’re in the area. Great hiking trails, and the wild flowers were gorgeous after a nice rain. Beautiful star lit nights.

Sunset comes quickly
Feb 2020
We came out to shoot some pictures in the late evening light and miscalculated just how quickly the sun sets behind the western skyline. No worries. This is a delightful preserve. I hesitate to call it a park, because it is mostly undeveloped. There are some ramadas for sheltered picnicking and a section of the popular Waterfall Trail is paved, providing easy access for people who have mobility issues. Other than that, it's undeveloped desert. There isn't much if any natural shade here, and the desert is teeming with wildlife...everything from cougar to gila monsters. Watch where you step and place your hands, but come and experience it. You will be glad you did!

The park less visited
Feb 2020
White Tank Mountain, at the far west end of Northern Drive, was less crowded than South Mountain and there were no vendors hawking gaudy jewelry. We went to the visitor center and watched a snake feeding session, hit the restrooms, and then hit the trails, My mother is in a wheelchair so we went directly to the waterfall trail. The first six tenths of a mile is paved and barrier free so mom had no problem. Some of us continued on up the box canyon to the waterfall site. It was dry, but had been flowing recently so the rocks were still glistening in the sun and there was a fairly deep pool of water at the base of the plunge. All along the trail the boulders are covered in petroglyphs. On the way back I took the connector trail over to the next trail system, hiked it, and was picked up at the trail head by the rest of my party. I can't wait to come back and explore some of the other trails in the extensive system.

This past December (2019, we parked and walked around. The park was beautiful. My first time in a dessert. I took a lot of pictures. If you are in the area, stop by.

Lush Desert
Feb 2020 • Solo
The White Tank Regional County park outside of Phoenix AZ is one of my very favorite places. It has 2 campgrounds, one for rvs and one for tents. It is up against the foothills of the mountains with many hiking trails and mountain bike trails. There is also a place for unloading horses. Lots of picnic tables and shade ramadas. You can see the whole valley from there.

Great hiking and beautiful scenery
Apr 2019 • Couples
Lots of options for hiking. We chose a partially paved trail that was wonderful for those seeking an easier hike. Lots of cacti, flowers and little animals to see. Restrooms were clean. Remember to always take s bottle of water.
