I visited Tubac 10 years ago and visited the Art Center because the village is known as being an art hub. I was disappointed the first time. I was hoping after 10 years things would have changed. The town seems to have more offerings, restaurants, art galleries and even an art school. However it looks like the art center expanded but why I could not figure out. It is a black box with average at best art exhibits, classes etc. After 10 years one would have hoped this place would have become a better place to visit. The shop in the center is about the only reason to visit. I was disappointed once again. Hopefully in another ten years it will be worth a visit.

I think Sunny is misinformed about the Art Festival in Tubac in Feburary. It is a Chamber of Commerce event and has nothing to do with the Art Center. The festival is a great event and the Chamber deserves the credit. The Chamber seems to do more for art in this community than the Art Center. If only the Art Center worked with the local community and had some exhibits worth visiting then more people would visit. It seems like they are stuck in the past with no vision for the future.

Over the years the Tubac Art Center has offered some quality exhibitions and programs. It has struggled, however, to find a niche in the southwest, especially in this art-friendly community. With construction going on, many of us thought a face-lift signaled a new focus and were excited to see the results. But the results are devastating! How could anyone who claims to be committed to the arts allow something so ugly to be built? The entryway is confusing, uninviting, and totally dismissive of the original architecture. The rest of the experience only gets worse. I am saddened by this waste of money and blight on an otherwise lovely landscape. I look forward to the next campaign to raise the funds to do something right for this charming community. In the meantime, shame on any of you who were involved in this travesty! N from Tucson

The Tubac Center of the Arts has always been one of my favorite small gems among regional American museums. But with the new Master Artist Gallery, and its permanent collection of iconic Southern Arizona artists, I personally think TCA has reached a whole new level. Now, in one place, I can experience the landscape, animals and people of Southern Arizona through the eyes of its greatest artists.

The new "Timeless Meditations" exhibit (through Nov. 11, 2012) is also the best I have ever seen at TCA, and the artists represent more than 25 states, so it's a national juried show. Walking through it, my artist friend remarked that it would have been equally at home in a New York gallery. The show is simply that good. There is even a Tibetan monk coming from Nepal to create a sand mandala as part of the exhibit!

I am impressed that TCA isn't just content to rest on its laurels but is pushing itself to present, and the public to experience, art in new ways. I am not affiliated with TCA but now I am especially proud to live in the area and call them my neighbor.

Tubac Center of the Arts has a beautiful array of art pieces ranging from oils, watercolors, & photography and more. A very pleasant stop along the way in a most creative place.

This center could be a gem of an art center in the southwest and a destination. Unfortunately it is stuck in the past. If it had a vision and included the greater community it has the potential to move forward. Wonder what is holding it back?

Tubac is a little artist village and the Tubac Arts Center a focal point. This was not my first visit and I found some changes since last year. Some good, some less good.

The main exhibit area was redesigned, freshly painted and very pleasant. There was an exhibition of local art works, as usual. A lot of paintings, less photos, sculpture, pottery and glass. Very good work in general, although not varied, but well displayed. I had a good time visiting this exhibit.

So far so good... but I was really disappointed by the gift shop. From my previous visits, I remember a small gift shop, cheerful and well lit, with a lot of gifts hand made by local artists. This was a great place to shop for something unique at affordable price.
The gift shop has been remodeled too. It is much bigger and this was a pleasant surprise. But that’s about it. It is now sad and dark (eggplant walls, no light, huge dark pieces of furniture). Even the sales person looks sad, reading a book behind her desk instead of greeting customers with a smile.
And the beautiful gifts from Arizona are gone. Lots of children books and trinkets, items behind glass cases (I like to touch what I am going to purchase). I was planning to shop and bring back some gifts made locally, but I left empty handed. Where are the art works? This is the beginning of the season, and I thought the gift shop would have been packed with goodies.

A huge disappointment. Let’s hope they will improve. The Tubac Arts Center is a landmark of the village of Tubac and it would be a big loss for the Arts Community that it goes down in quality.

Well this is an interesting limited overview of many local artists in the Tubac area. Perhaps my average rating is a bit low as there is a variety of art examples.

Be sure to check out the Tubac Center of the Arts. After wondering around town checking out all the wonderful galleries and shops we spent some time in the Tubac Center of the Arts. There were very few people there and that was a shame as the place has a much larger collection than we imagined. Some of the pieces were also for sale. No charge to get in but donations are accepted.

Very disappointing visit - less than friendly greeting at entry. Confusing layout and back room where visitors were touching artwork without anybody monitoring. Lackluster exhibit.
