We've been to this lake many times but it is not (as of May 2020) open & not sure when/if it will ever be.

Beautiful lake but extremely challenging to reach!

The roads to and from Apache lake are narrow, unpaved, winding mountain roads. Best to go there by Jeep!

Great Lake if you are still alive after the drive there
Oct 2018 • Family
There is no warning on the road to Apache lake after tortilla flats. If we had known that we were volunteering for a near death experience we would have never gone. After my panic attack for the longest 10 miles of my life, I considered building a teepee and living off the land for the rest of my life just to avoid going back on that road on our way back.
Luckily there’s a resort with stiff drinks to calm your nerves (passengers only). Lake was beautiful and affordable to rent a boat. Some confusion on how the first come first serve works when it comes to boat rental. We swam and boated and enjoyed the sights.
Took a shot at the bar and prayed to the Lord to keep us safe for the drive back.
If you’re an adrenaline junky or you have a terminal illness than it’s worth the drive.

Best of the 3

There are 3 man-made lakes in this region, Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake and Apache Lake. Apache Lake is absolutely beautiful and the longest at 18 miles. I liked this lake best as the views are the most expansive and the surrounding canyon walls are the highest. It just seems that there is more geography/geology to see on this Lake. When I was there the water was as flat as glass, silent and empty of other people.

Beautiful Lake.

Very pretty lake, nice and quiet. Getting to the lake was much longer than we expected. Windy washboard dirt roads. We were told maybe within 2 years it will be paved. Lake was wonderful though.

nothing like coming over a curvy drive and come upon this beautiful water--it is breathtaking-every part of the drive is more gorgeous than round the bend

South of Tortilla Flats - Apache Lake is one of four reservoirs built along the Salt River - lots of camping areas - several boating ramps - very boat friendly area ! Worth a stop if your passing through !

Stunning!

If you take the Historic Apache Trail scenic drive along route 88 from Apache Junction to the Teddy Roosevelt Dam, you will see this lake along the way. The views are quite stunning and well worth your time to see.

Beautiful!

The drive out there was a bit white-knuckled as the one-lane dirt road is very twisty and turny. In my opinion, the drive on that road should be experienced. Beautiful scenery. Mountains and vistas are breathtaking!
