- Nellie DShell Lake, Wisconsin1 contributionWorth the trip. For as busy as they were the service was outstanding. The burger was good and the smoked brisket quesadilla was excellent. But $15.00 each for a regular Bloody Mary and margarita?? Stick to the beer. Good selection and nice and cold.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2023
- Laurene A13 contributionsA place to visitFun old western town. It's only about 1 block long, but in the most beautiful mountains. To arrived there, you must drive a road with over 100 curves. Enjoy the view if you are not driving! The restaurant is very popular on weekend and there is a wait. They have saddles to sit in at the bar.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 27, 2023
- Tim M3 contributionsA great destination to spend an afternoonTortilla Flat is one of those destinations that everyone should visit at least once. There is one restaurant, one patio bar/BBQ with some food items, museum, an ice cream shop/general store and gift shop. Bar stools inside are made of saddles. The regular band that plays outside is good and does a great job interacting with the crowd. All staff that we have interacted with are courteous and friendly. The only draw back is the road to get there, and parking depend on the day and time you go. If you plan to eat, get there early or prepare to wait.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 4, 2023
- sd2travelSouth Dakota661 contributionsfun afternoon - great stopDriving up to Tortilla Flat had absolutely beautiful scenery with multiple pull-offs on the way. The drive up is worth it for the scenery alone, with Tortilla Flat being a great place to get out, stretch, go in the shops and have lunch. We had a great lunch at the restaurant - which if it is busy they give you a buzzer and you can wander around while you wait. The gift shop is nice also. Driving by Canyon Lake is beautiful and we also stopped by Goldfield Ghost Town on the way. Next time we will make time for Lost Dutchman State Park. There is alot to do in this area, highly recommend the drive up to Tortilla Flat!Visited April 2023Written May 12, 2023
- ToddTempe, Arizona15 contributionsRoute 88 Road TripAfter Dolly Steamboat we wanted lunch and this saloon did not disappoint. Dollar bills make up the wallpaper, saddle seats line the bar, and various memorabilia and history throughout. Keg root beer is excellent as were our lunches. Big portions on the salads and the chili. If you can make it through 147 curves of the road to the saloon it is well worth it.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 9, 2023

We had a great meal at this restaurant. The food is pub like style, but very tasty. Their homemade prickly pear lemonade was very refreshing and tasty. We enjoyed the saddles for bar stools and all of the old style saloon furnishings. A really cool thing is that the restaurant walls are almost completely covered in $1.00 bills. We really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. It was a really cool experience.

Tortilla Flats is the last surviving stagecoach stop along the Apache Trail and is a bucket list must when visiting Mesa.
From Mesa it's an awesome drive along a beautiful scenic route through the dessert mountains on a long twisting road with switch backs, and breath taking desert scenery. Once there we visited the quirky & unique Superstition Saloon, with dollar bills & memorabilia covering the walls, and you sit on saddles at the bar. There's also a schoolhouse, post office, and small museum, a trading post/general store with a hanged dummy in front of it, and a shootout at the OK Corral. Just up the road is the beautiful Canyon Lake with Dolly the Rriverboat and mountain cliffs along it. There's great hiking & off road trails.
This place was worth the visit!

Superstition Saloon was a fun place to eat. We both had the BBQ & stringed onion burger. It was excellent! It was the perfect combination of barbecue sauce and onion on a toasted potato bun roll! The secret to getting a seat is to go right when it opens! We had no problem getting a place to park or immediate seating. By the time we were done with our meal, there was a line with an hour wait. Main Street got very crowded, very quickly so we were glad to wrap up our visit. The meal and ambiance is definitely worth the wait.

Stopped here for a quick visit after a the Dolly Steamboat Tour. For all the hype, don’t expect much, there isn’t much here. A restaurant, gift shop and a small schoolhouse/museum. Small but busy place and not much parking.
I’ll admit it was fun seeing $1 bills plastered all over the restaurant walls, and the women’s bathrooms had some fun art on the stalls. But the prickly pear gelato was a thumbs down. The taste was OK, but the texture was waxy, not creamy and had a funny aftertaste.
If you’re out this way, its OK for a quick stop. But, I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.

A little town mostly made for tourists, but a lot of fun. You can get a bite to eat and some drinks, and take some great pictures. We heard that the road north of Tortilla Flat is now closed due to a collapse, but the road from the south by Canyon Lake is open and fun to drive.

There's not much to see or do in Tortilla Flat but the drive & stops along the way are definitely worth it. We didn't have the opportunity to eat in either the outside patio or indoor restaurant but did enjoy some gelato from one of the shops. We also managed to find quite a few items to purchase for friends' birthdays.

We stopped here for lunch before going on our Dolly Steamboat cruise. We wandered through the shops and then had lunch in the restaurant. The burgers where great and the ladies bathroom is a hoot! Gotta go just to see the bathroom! There is also an outdoor patio restaurant that has live music. Very crowded but they know how to handle the crowds.

This is the fun, off the beaten path kind of place my husband and I search out. Our friend, a native of Tempe had never been so he went along. It’s a beautiful drive up the mountain, then down into Tortilla Flat, population of 6!!! Not to be missed. Yes it’s touristy…. That’s the fun in it! Original one room school house, now a museum, a silly reenactment of a gun fight, couple of gift shops….. nice things. The best part is the restaurant with authentic theme, dollar bills on every wall from past visitors, ladies room you’ve got to see and outside live music!!! We had a bite to eat and a drink and then got to enjoy the drive back.

Is the road there extremely curvy? How long is the drive from apache junction?

It's not a drive for the weak. Seriously, it's a lot longer than you would think and it WILL take you a long time. I would allot twice the time that Google maps would tell you, simply because the views are so stunning and you will want/need to go slower than you'd plan. (also, you will want to pull over for pics!) It's a really cool turn around spot, too, if you don't want to do the entire Superstition drive.
what is NAME of Bar with saddle seats as stools?
