Cute and worth a visit

I absolutely loved this little museum! It's really cute and there's a good vibe. You can get a personal tour (in Spanish, but the guide will talk slowly) and they will teach you a little about the life around the lake. I loved it!

Time well spent!

This is a small, interesting museum about the geology, history, and Mayan culture in the area around San Pedro and Lake Atitlan. The museum is well organized and the guide was knowledgeable and presented things clearly. I assume that they have tours in English, but I took one in Spanish, which was a great exercise. The guide spoke very clearly, so it's easy to follow along if you have about intermediate-level language skills.

Historical video and guided tour of small museum well worth your time. Includes explanation of Mayan calendar and your personal number based on your date of birth. Small gift shop with items made by local women.

Great place to learn geology of Lake Atitlán and Mayan culture

I have been there many times and each one I learn something! The museum is great and super well presented. If you want to know how the Caldera of Atitlán was formed go there! You will have amazing explanations.

Interesting

Too sore legs for hiking San Pedro so I went to TzununYa instead. Not quite the same but very interesting experience where you can learn about the Tz'utujil people region, with a film on the formation of the lake.

So glad I visited here

Come here to learn about the livelihoods of the Mayan people and how the area around San Pedro developed. The guide was very friendly and patient with all my questions. The museum is a nice walk from the main boardwalk and definitely worth putting an hour aside.

Tzunun' Ya' offers a great insight into, the history of San Pedro and lake Atitlan. From the big bang and the creation of the lake, pictures from the 1940s, to the culture and tradition of the local Maya people. As a little gift, you get your animal (according to the Maya calentar, based on your birthdate) and some thoughtful explanations and interpretations of it. We really loved our visit here. highly recommended.
