Rio Claro tours offer canoe tours of the river in 2, 3, or 4 hour versions. All are fairly light on canoeing and involve scrambling around the waterfalls and pools off the river. It's a bit rugged so not great for little kids or some seniors, but very nice for anyone with a sense of adventure who is reasonably fit,... More

We were told we were going to kayak up the river and float back. However, what we were expecting, was to stop half way back through our float and begin a steep climb up slippery rocks using ropes they installed as support. There was an opportunity earlier on in the float to jump off the edge of a cliff- no... More

This tour is a must if you are in the area. The tour is great, the people are wonderful, and the profits all go to saving the turtles. We had a guided canoe trip and it really put us in touch with the fantastic biodiversity of the forrest and the river. We climbed up a series of waterfalls with some... More

Hiked to Rio Claro Day Tours from Las Caletas lodge, took us a couple of hours because we stopped so often to watch monkeys and so many different birds. We opted for the three hour tour, I thought there would be more kayaking involved but since the water levels were low we ended up ditching the boats after 20 minutes... More

We walked from Drake Bay to Rio Claro and had the best day. We walked about 10km each way through amazing jungle and beaches. We saw monkeys and scarlot macaws. Once we arrived at Rio Claro, we thought we found paradise. It was a little 'shop' with post cards, tea/coffe, and great decor. We hung out with Paloma, one of... More

Our family (parents and kids 6,10,13) visited for the second year. The kids love swimming in the river (the rope swing, alas, is down, its tree having been knocked down by another falling tree, but it has been replaced by a board to leap from). Upriver there are great places to climb and jump into the river, and an adventurous... More

Rio Claro is one of my favorite spots in Drake Bay! I have made the hike to visit more times than I can count. Ricardo has become a great friend and what he does makes the area a more natural place. I always suggest a visit to Rio Claro when speaking with travelers and I always get returning smiles. Kayaking... More

I love'd it we took the 3 hour trip and we was very pleased with how it worked out! But it is not easy working you have to know how to swim and you need to have some good walking skills (meaning no pain in the legs ore twisted knee's) but it is one of the most beautiful places in... More

Beautiful hike through the rain forest, across two beaches, stopped for the macaws and several other birds, arrived at Rio Claro and took a kayak ride up the river with other folks, then on return jumped in the fresh water estuary for a cool refreshing swim! Beautiful!

This was an amazing experience! This family is saving for more than 30 years sea turtles and trying everything in order to avoid losing these amazing animals. In the past few years the numbers are just 20% of what they used to be few years ago. Thanks to this person we still have at least these 20%. When we arrived... More
