My sister and I planned a trip (from Vermont) to Tempe to watch Bobby Hurley coach ASU. Awesome night! So much fun. If you like basketball, totally worth it. Plus-Arizona? Loved it!! We were getting a blizzard in Vermont.

It feels a little weird to review a university but here I go! I have a lot of respect for the institutions academics. They provide a lot to allow their students to discover their passions and to succeed. I only enrolled in one class but...More

The museum is nice size, but not too big if you have mobility issues. The exhibits that change are usually tied into the history of the area. The permanent exhibits are thought provoking. The outside of the museum is great also

I loved this place. It's great comfort food that is filling and still healthy. Plus, the casual warehouse is a great place if you're coming here with another person or a group of people. If you visit Tempe, definitely check this place out. I also...More

Located not far from Mill Avenue, the Arizona State University campus strikes me as one of the most beautiful and memorable places I visited in Tempe. It welcomes you right away, with the monument showing the strong statement from the University Charter. The wide, long...More

We came to U of A for a football game, but spent some time wandering around campus. It's a very nice campus with some interesting buildings. If you have time, check out the Arizona State Museum which is right on campus. There are some interesting...More

This campus is huge, and while walking my husband to his classes (he's a professor there) I've observed many wonderful, huge, specimen plants that most people might overlook. There are some beautiful old trees, yuccas, and even a large ponytail palm if one knows where...More

I enjoyed my time at ASU. My dorm was subpar but Manzy has since been renovated. The light rail and bus system makes transportation a breeze although I did have my purse stolen on the bus once. The tuition is crazy though and they screw...More

Travel options from LA or Anaheim to Phoenix, Arizona (12 Replies)
Hi guys, We are a family of 5 (3 children, 18, 16 and 11 years). We will arrive at LA from London on 31st Dec. and will stay here till 8th January. We might stay last two nights at Anaheim. Afterwards, we will travel to Phoenix (Arizona State University at Tempe). We will be flying back to London from Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. If I rent a car from LA and give the option to drop it in Phoenix, the rental cost overall is doubled immediately as compared to drop off in LA. (e.g., one Dodge...More

Hi, Have you tried using a car rental site like carrentals.com or have you used the regular car rental site like Hertz but made sure to put in your home location outside the USA before getting a price?? I ask because I know for folks from Europe the car rental agencies do NOT charge a drop off fee if the car is driven between California, Arizona and Nevada. Which car rental site did you use to get the added fees???

Stay near Arizona State University in Tempe or Downtown? (5 Replies)
My son and I are traveling to Phoenix for a baseball camp this weekend. We are currently staying close to the Arizona State campus in Tempe in the Marriott Courtyard. His camp is at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium. In the evening we will be going to a Phoenix Suns game downtown. We will be touring the campus both in Tempe and the Journalism school downtown. What's the best (liveliest) place to stay that would give my son a good feel of what this area has to offer? Downtown or close to the...More

The Courtyard Marriot is perfect for what you want, and it's the place I typically recommend in downtown Tempe. Phoenix Muni is a very short drive, and you can take the light rail to downtown Phoenix from Mill Ave for both the campus visit and the Suns game.

Thanksgiving or Easter (mid-Apr) for best weather/visit? (6 Replies)
We live in northern VA (outside of DC) and just moved our oldest son out to Arizona State University to start as a freshman a few weeks ago. Our youngest is a HS junior this year and we anticipate we will only have a couple of more years where we might be able to coordinate family vacations so we want to try to work around our college son's geographical location and see more of AZ and CA. Looking at coming out to AZ for Thanksgiving and also Easter/Spring breaks this year to see our...More

We have Notoriously Beautiful Weather during Thanksgiving most years while the East Coast gets hammered with Awful storms. March/Arpil can be often be nice but that is when we can get Clouds and Drizzle.
