Worth a quick detour
Jul 2020
This is a very small village with a very rich history. You won't need much time to visit, but it's definitely worth a small detour to appreciate the beauty, history and architecture. The basis of this village is an old monastery originally founded in 1281 by Béatrix de la Tour du Pin. In 1892 the monks were driven out during the French Revolution. Fast forward to 2020 and this is a quaint village with a lot of charm.

Excellent tour of the monastery - a must do
Jun 2018 • Friends
We spent the afternoon at the monastery. The guided tour (in English) was extremely informative, pleasant and fun. Highly recommend taking the guided tour. Beautiful area. Beautiful monastery that has areas both in ruins and renovated.

Lovely old abbey
Sep 2012 • Couples
You can enter the grounds of this abbey for free and it is lovely to wander around, inside and outside the old walls, or sit at one of the two bars. But the real site to visit is the inside of the old church. There are beautiful old frescos, simple but exquisite. The catch is that it is very difficult to get inside, despite the supposed guided visits. In practice, the only way to get in is with a tour that has already booked. My daughter, who lives nearby, has still not managed it. We were lucky that a French tour was just going in as we got there and we were allowed to tag on. No more visits that day and the posted tour for the next day would only go ahead if there were enough people. But the church and other parts of the interior are well worth the effort of finding a tour. Lots of waymarked trails from nearby.

Very small, but very quiet
Sep 2012 • Couples
St Croix is a very small Abbaye. You can visit it in one hour. The tourism office is closed on Monday. Avoid the bathroom, prefer the one in the bar across the plaza. The parking is up the hill.
