The short Airport Mesa Road is beautiful. There are two nice overlooks with limited parking at both. The first, the Big Red Knoll, is half way up and is great for 3 reasons, views, the scramble up the knoll with hiking and it is a designated Vortex area. While this is popular for sunset, IMO it is way too crowded... More

Its neat to drive up to the mesa and the airport. We went for brunch at the grill it was delicious. Then we went to do some hiking around the rocks spectacular views on both sides. Looking back across the town toward the coffee pot. The south views show the road winding through the beautiful landscape.

We were told by many people to go to Airport Mesa to see the sunset. We did that and it was just okay. I am sure there are better days for sunsets than other days, but this one was just okay.

If you are looking for the most amazing sunset of your life, look no further. No matter the night, you will have an amazing experience sitting atop Airport Mesa watching the sun sink lower and lower in the sky. It can get crowded during peak times in tourist season, but the view is nonetheless worth it.

If you are planning on hiking all of airport loop I would suggest parking at the lookout midway up the hill and not at the airport ( the hike ends at the lookout). The hike is awesome, you overlook the entire Red Rock area from here and definitely have the best views. Once you get to the opposite side of... More

If you do the airport mesa trail from the trailhead halfway up the hill clockwise from the trailhead, the best views are in the first 45 minutes. You might want to just turn around then and enjoy them again.

If you want good Sedona views but don't want a long or difficult hike, this is the spot. Lots of parking, easy walk to views even for someone with physical challenges. The airport vortex is on the road up to airport mesa. Limited parking but includes handicap space. To top of vortex is a bit of a challenge but worth... More

Don't miss the sunsets from the Airport summit. Time your hike around the airport and meditations near the vortex to end the day with a gorgeous sunset. The Airport restaurant also has great food and great windows if you like to watch planes.
