We didn’t realize how easy this was to find. Just head to the local airport silly. Nice little romp along the cliff edge and up and down some bumps on the rocks and you can’t fail to get a good view and some shots. Enjoy!

Gorgeous views of the entire town. It gets crowded so get here early & enjoy 360 degree views of Sedona.

Climbing up to this view was fairly easy because there are built in rocks stairs leading up to it. I found it relaxing to sit up there and just chill out and take photos. The views are stunning and energy is good.

When in Sedona you must view a sunset from Airport Road. Get there early to get a parking spot though

Take the trail. It leads you to a mountain that overlooks ALL of the vortices. Quite a hike but totally worth it.

The parking is limited at the Airport Mesa, but there is a parking lot further up that cost $3 for the day. The hike down the Sedona trail is 0.6 miles downhill, and then there is another short hike up to the vortex. It's a...More

So the deal is you drive up, pay $3 to park, enjoy the view, take some snaps, watch the tour buses come and go - and that's about it. Obviously well worth the small fee because the view is amazing. About halfway up however, there...More

We always enjoy visiting the Airport Mesa at the end of Airport Drive. The view is outstanding, and there is a restaurant as well as the airport to see and enjoy.

someone had recommended we go here to see the sunset. we chose to wait for a parking spot at the first pull off instead of paying to park in the upper parking lot. the walk up to the view point was a bit of a...More

You need to arrive early enough to park and get your spot because this gets crowded. There is a parking lot that charges $3 but you can use that voucher again on another time or day

You can actually drive up and hike down ~ or park at the bottom and hike up. The Airport Mesa is actually a really good place to see the sunset, too. AND - the entire canyon is "sacred" and there are hundreds of trails in... More

If you are lucky enough to get a parking spot at the small lot near the Vortex, then it is 5-10 minutes maximum. However, that lot only holds 10-12 cars. At peak periods you are going to have to park farther up the mountain... More

Which Vortex Site for a Sunrise Hike? (8 Replies)
Hello Everyone, We will be in Sedona in early Sept. and the ladies are keen on a sunrise hike/visit to a vortex. From Boynton C., Airport Mesa, Cathedral, and Bell Rock which would you suggest, taking into consideration views, solitude, hike time and difficulty? It must be said that the ladies are strong hikers and highly motivated to accomplish their plan. In the same context, which site might be best for a late afternoon/sunset hike? Thank you all in advance for the great advice coming our...More

All the hikes are good morning hikes. As far as sunset, I think Boynton is the only hike I'd avoid. Airport Mesa is the only place that tends to get crowded, so much for solitude. Bell Rock is popular, but has much more space. You might also look at Doe Mountain for a great sunrise hike, you might not see anyone else, if you start before sunrise.

Sights I want to see and Red Rock Pass? (3 Replies)
Hello, I(a party of 3) will be in Sedona in 10 days. I have a number of sights that I would like to see as I will be there for 3 nights. Some(more will come, I'm sure) are: Cathedral Rock Bell Rock Airport Mesa (for sunset) Devil's Bridge Snoopy's Belly Buddha Beach Chapel of the Holy Cross Boynton Canyon Oak Creek Canyon What is the Red Rock Scenic Byway(Sr 179)? Do I pay somewhere to drive around or just that state road I have read that many choose to do the Red Rock...More

For Sunset: Crescent Moon Day Use Park arriving approximately 1.5 hours before the stated sunset time. Walk behind the first bathrooms in the park along the path down to Oak Creek where there is a wide, flat water section of the creek (widely imaged site) to see Cathedral Rock reflected into the creek. Small separate fee to park For Sunrise Drive up and park across the street from to the Sedona Airport Overlook or stop before at the small parking lot for the Sedona Airport Vortex...More

Help with picking hiking trails please (6 Replies)
First, I would like to thank everyone who takes the time to answer people’s questions. The information you provide is invaluable! My husband and I are coming to Sedona for the first-time next week arriving Wednesday, 9/19 at 10:30 a.m. in PHX and leaving Sunday, 9/23 late evening from PHX. We like hiking and bike riding (not mountain biking) on trails. I like moderate hikes but can do hard hikes (no rock climbing) to get to see something amazing. I am trying to organize a variety of hikes...More

Choose Boynton Canyon for northwest. It’s out and back and you can go as far as you like and turn around. Fay Canyon is nearby and shorter. Try Doe Mtn if you feel compelled to attain elevation. Soldiers Pass to Bruns Mesa to Cibola is a good compliment, further east. South of town, Hiline and Courthouse Loop are my favorites. Westfork speaks for itself. But don’t overthink this. How far or how high you hike doesn’t matter as much as how much time you spend in the wilderness. You can...More
