My family and I booked the cliffhanger tour. We drove to Sedona, ood and ahhd at the red rocks and the cathedral as we made our way through to Sedona Off Road Adventures. And then the nightmare began. As we attempted to check in for the tour, it was instantly apparent that GroupOn bookings were not favored. We were treated as if we were stealing from the company, and at one point the woman taking our information even accused us of trying to scam them. Out loud! Within our earshot she actually said to another employee that we were trying to scam them. They added a tax that we had not ever experienced using GroupOn. When we questioned the additional cost and tried to negotiate that the added fee had not been specified and that’s when they got hostile and accusatory. As for myself, I have a bit of trouble negotiating stairs due to a back injury. So my partner filled out my form, but accidently signed my name. Oh lord, what a ruckus that created. The woman behind the counter acted like a stick of dynamite whose fuse had just been lit. She snatched the form out of my partner’s hand and started yelling at her as she wadded the paper up. I was made to walk up to the second floor to complete my paperwork. As the woman handed me the form, I simply passed it over to my partner to fill out-again, since I did not bring my glasses. And then I signed it. All of this could have been avoided by just letting my partner run the form downstairs to me in the first place. I have never been so put off or disappointed. And we had not even begun the tour! And once we got in the hummer, the experience did not improve much. All we did was drive about 15 minutes out of town to a dirt offroad. We experienced red dust, a few inane comments about some plants, sudden stops only to ogle a couple of bunnies, and non-stop droning from the driver (the hummer noise was so loud we could not understand his narration unless we were stopped for the wonder bunnies of the southwest). This company claims to be the only eco tour in Sedona. I’m sorry, but running a bit of biodiesel and stopping to point out a few trees and bunnies does not an eco tour make for me. Now imagine hearing this: “ok folks, we are at the turnaround point.” What! Yes, all we did was go bumpity bump down hill only to go bumpity bump up the same rocky trail we had just come down. What a disappointment. We didn’t even get near any of the red rocks. A couple of years ago we did a pink jeep tour. And because that was so awesome, we thought the hummer tour would be too. Wrong. Never assume. Sedona Off Road Adventures is in Sedona. You do get off a paved road. But there is no adventure waiting unless you are willing to endure malicious invectives from the woman at the office, or if going bumpity bump to observe the wild wonder bunnies and a few trees is your definition of adventure. And as for this being their “cliffhanger” tour, do not assume all the connotations of the word since the only one that fits is the fact that at a few points along the trail, the hummer actually got close to the edge and you could see down into the canyon. To me, the name of this particular tour is bordering on false advertisement. Do not expect much from this company for you surely will be disappointed if not outright accused to your face of trying to scam them if you use GroupOn.
