We are active seniors and were looking for a hike that wasn't too challenging. This is an easy trail that can become difficult it you don't follow the signs!!!! We suggest reading up on the trail before heading out as the markers on the walk aren't very helpful. We hiked for approximately 2 hours which is approx. 5 km. The trail is well maintained and the scenery is spectacular. We were there in December and a t-shirt and jeans with a good pair of runners was all that was needed. Wear suncreen and a hat, and take lots of water - even in winter - as you quickly become dehydrated and there is no water available on the trail.

We loved this trail. We took the Chimney Rock fork and looped around Chimney. Difficulty would be intermediate. I'm 65 and loved it. Bring a walking stick, regardless of age. And arrive EARLY. We started around 8:30AM. The crowds will move in.

This trail can provide views within moments of beginning the trail! On any given day I can hike here if I have 10 Min. or 10 Hrs. The trail leads to Chimney Rock as well as Andante trail (bicyclist frequent this trail so be aware). All trails are easy to moderate & are used by many locals as well as tourists.

Took a morning stroll from Casa Sedona Inn and stumbled upon this trail. Nice, simple hike with nice visits. Quiet and peaceful.

This is nice and fairly simple hike. Great for clearing mind and some good exercise. There are also some nice vistas as you go up. I believe the trail does not loop back to trailhead so do make note of the way back (intersects with another trail) or simply backtrack.

Less than a mile from our B&B - right off a residential neighborhood- are the trailheads for Thunder Mountain and Chimney Rock. Nice hikes- not too hard. We brought our dog. Stunning views!

Beautiful views, easy hiking, lots of wildlife. We saw a coyote just at the trailhead. The hike was an easy 3 mile hike. The trail takes you close to the mountain, but you have to pass some homes at the start.

I literally stumbled onto the Thunder Mountain Trail while visiting the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park. There is access to the trail behind the park so I couldn’t resist another hike as I’d been enjoying the trails in and around Sedona during my four-day visit. This one is a bit more challenging than some as it is on medium-flat terrain and winds up the slope of a mountain. There’s more vegetation than some of the dustier trails in the area that are much more suited to a desert. This trail is also a bit narrow in some spots and eventually becomes rockier and steeper. How far one goes is personal preference but there are several branches that are also mild to moderate in degree of exertion. Cacti are ubiquitous, of course, and the elusive flowers are stunning. Water and sunscreen are a must. No special hiking gear is needed – I wore quality running shoes with good soles and tread – but would help if one chooses to climb the rocks up the mountain. This set of trails borders on a more residential area so is not as secluded as some but the lush vegetation still offers a degree of solitude.
