In all my travels in over fifty countries around the world, this is one of the most beautiful hikes. The history of the Canyon makes it more interesting, but really its about the natural beauty.

We are both over 72 years of age but we did the whole trail from the parking lot to the trail end sign and back. There is a $10 per vehicle admission fee. The parking lot is between mile marker 384 and 385 on Rt....More

Our first time hiking here and I have not hiked in years. I am not in a decent shape either. I bought hiking shoes, armed with my camera and hydration backpack. First the bathrooms are an eyesore. Not to go into much detail but think...More

Lacks great open views but it's always cooler than hiking in the open and the little canyon is so beautiful. Lots of interesting birds too. Follow the west fork of Oak Creek for about 3 miles - you cross the stream a few times so...More

Recently hiked the trail with my family of five. I absolutely loved this trail and most especially crossing Oak Creek 12 times. Only down side is it is sandy and quite dusty so beware if you have allergies.

Wear old, good grip canvas shoes and walk right up the stream. Spectacular wildlife and canyon walls. Bring walking stick to help in slippery areas of stream. Or walk along above the stream. Take in abandoned 19th century pioneer homesites and fruit orchards. Kids have...More

This is one of the prettiest trails to hike in Arizona, located in the Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona on highway 89A. It is almost to the end before you begin to climb out toward Flagstaff. You will have a elevation gain from about...More

This trail is not strenuous and travels over several different creek sites. It is very popular because it is not difficult and winds through gorgeous countryside with great rocks and creek pools to enjoy. Very picturesque

Even though the trailhead is located up Hwy 17, it is well worth it. We spent the day and packed a lunch and plenty of water. The hike is beautiful and very shaded and much cooler as it runs along the creek. We crossed the...More

We paid our $10 parking fee shortly after the gates opened at 9. (Why so late?) There was some light rain. The trail was well maintained. Unfortunately, it was wall-to-wall people talking, talking and talking. There was no wildlife. There was NO wilderness experience. After...More

Hi. We will be there March 12th and want to hike the trail. What do you recommend we take for footwear with regards to water levels? Do people take walking sticks?

Take water, the streams you cross are ankle deep, i just let my sneakers get wet, it was no big deal. My cousin did wear water proof ticking boots. I wouldn't wear sandals although we saw teenagers with sandals on and they... More
