Our first hike in the Phoenix area. Really nice area. Parking lot was nearly full at 11am. and the main trail leading out behind the visitor center/restroom area was busy. Most folks doing a good job masking when needed and/or giving wide berth when passing.

The Brown's Mtn Loop was popular with hikers and bikers. Sandy and packed dirt, quite wide.
The spur to the top was not too busy but still had a fair number of folks, and, surprisingly, half a dozen walking their mountain bikes up. Why? I didn't ask. Didn't see anyone bike down. The peak requires a bit of high-stepping and scrambling in a couple very steep sections.
Less popular, thankfully, was the Cone Mtn loop. Much narrower path, too. Still some bikes we needed to make way for. No known path to the top of Cone.
Good restroom facilities.

Well you won't get much, if any, shade here. So schedule your hiking early AM or in cooler weather. Carry water. You can refill by the restrooms. There's a wide network of trails leaving from the parking here. Most hikers head towards the summit. Probably about 2 miles with a mild elevation gain until the last 1/10th of a mile. You can scale the summit. It's not really difficult. But be careful on the downslope. Fairly steep with lots of gravel. Without a trekking pole for support you very well might slip. Most hikers return the same exact way. But you need not. Grab a green trail map from the kiosk at the beginning and study it. There are a couple of alternate easy ways back, both emanating from the saddle. Views are simply spectacular. Rattlers may be around, so watch your step. Also mountain bikers prefer certain trails, particularly near the base area. Trailhead is easy to find. There's lots of parking but, if full, try the equestrian area. Families might also enjoy the Jane Rau nature trail. though not handicap accessible, it's a pleasant 15 minute loop best starting from the shelter alongside the restroom area.

We went for a casual afternoon walk and had hopes of seeing the sunset. Lots of choices and difficulty levels to choose from. All trails clearly marked with signs. Saw several adults and kiddos on bikes. Nice wide and clean trails for us. Love the Sonoran desert!

Won’t be returning as they apparently don’t allow ebikes. Not a real smart move considering ebikes are the future and class 1 ebikes must be pedaled to engage. 10 years from now there will be ebikes there - guaranteed.

I loved this trailhead because it has so many options available. From the super-easy 1/2 mile trail to ones that go for miles and miles around the park. I particularly liked climbing Brown Mountain.

Browns Ranch is a great spot to go for a hike or to ride a mountain bike. You have many choices from flat easy hike, to a challenging stride up the dome. Spend 2 hours, or all day. Good facilities as well.

This is THE place to hike, bike, boulder and picnic on the multiple trails. Great easy mountain biking for beginners, hiking is just beautiful, climb the boulders and enjoy a picnic in an incredibly scenic area. See wildlife such as deers, birds, and much more. This spot never gets old. Bathroom facilities with running water (believe me, some places don't have this) are super nice as well. Plenty of parking too. This hiking spot is a must see in the Phoenix area.
