    Absolutely Loved it........
So been coming to Scottsdale for more than 15 years and never done any horse riding, so this year I made it a point that we would. Chose Macdonald ranch as this is the one we used to pass almost every day. It did not disappoint.. we met Brian to start with and asked if we'd every done this before, which we hadn't, but he talked us through it. Andrew was our guide for that morning and was very knowledgeable, great personality and really friendly. We were the only 2 that morning. Met our horses, Tommy and Wildfire ( aka Wilma 🤣). What a great experience we had. Highly recommend this place

    An umissable experience, outstanding service
Thank you so much to everybody at Macdonalds for such an amazing experience. Shout outs especially to Lexi for her help in getting our booking all sorted to begin with and the OUTSTANDING Andrew B who the whole thing would not have been the same without. From our first ride out and Lola being unwell to our return on the Friday, where he genuinely seemed so pleased that we could return to finish what we had started absolutely made the holiday so magical. Everyone we saw was friendly, kind, helpful and totally a credit to the ranch and what the whole idea of us tourists coming to play cowboys means. George who last year wouldnt even look at a cowboy hat, had to after the first ride go and get kitted out at Boot Barn, that in itself was worth the price of admission. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect, the booking in, horse selection, the ride, oh the ride, 1 hour through the desert on horseback, and the pumpkin patch that followed. Everyone was friendly, and helpful, we cannot return soon enough.

    First time riders
We reserved our times online. It was easy to make reservations and pick our times and meals. Hannah and Kyle made my grandkids very comfortable with riding a horse by themselves. While waiting on the cookout, we played games on site. Thank you for a good experience.

    Best Trail Ride Ever!
What a fantastic experience! My group of 6 college friends got together in Scottsdale for a reunion and decided to do the Sunset Trail ride followed by the cowboy dinner. Ride was beautiful and informative and the guides were exceptional. Our dinner with the singing cowboy was tasty and fun. We took a sidetrack to see the goats and donkeys on the ranch as well. Ended the night around the fire pit roasting marshmallows. Just perfect.

    Cowboy Cookout!
A fun family activity! We were looking for an alternative to trail riding, so the hayride was a good option for us. Lots of western activities for the kids to do before the cookout. Lots of families with multi-generations. And you can’t beat smores at sunset!

    Hayride food drink entertainment
Was worried my family wouldn't like it. All 9 of us enjoyed it. Beautiful blue sky and soft white clouds. Orange sunset. We loved the beans, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese. Hot dogs enormous. Soft drinks, beer and wine. We enjoyed the entertainer the most. Also great conversation with the cowboys. Will make an annual trip each spring.

What an amazing experience! My husband and I brought our two kids (5,8) along with my parents. My daughter was just shy of being able to ride a horse during the Cowboy Dinner experience, but she was able to do a hay ride with her grandparents. Afterwards the staff took her around on a pony! The horseback ride was pretty slow and gentle, but super fun. It was a beautiful evening.
Once we got off the horse rides, the kids had a blast going around to the Petting Zoo, games, climbing, etc all over the property. I almost wish we had had more time! Then it was time to head to dinner which was really good. Each family was at their own picnic table and the food was great. The musician was lovely and of course the kids had a BLAST making s'mores.
It is a pricey endeavor, but the memories and experience were totally worth it!

Took my mother and our family on a ride at the MacDonald's Ranch for her birthday. It was a wonderful experience! Eva and Bill were our guides. Eva was sweet, kind, and made us all feel very comfortable and safe on the horses. Two of the riders we were with had more experienced than the rest of the group. Eva allowed them to follow her and go off the trail, all while making sure the less experienced rides were comfortable. Bill was very knowledgeable and made sure to make the experience fun and educational. The set up process was efficient and seamless. All the people who work at this ranch love animals and take very good care of them. It is evident. I would HIGHLY recommend going to Macdonald Ranch. We will be returning!!

My wife and I went on the Sunset ride and cookout. The ride was fun and easy. At one hour it was just the right length. Brian and Amy were great trail guides. Brian has an unending stream of corny jokes that were a hoot. Horses are obviously well cared-for. The scenery was grand. Dinner was excellent- cooked on a hot grill by a man who knew what he was doing. One of the best experiences on our trip!

It was our first time out to Macdonalds ranch this past week and we were just looking for a fun hour of riding in the desert, but what we got was so much more than that. We had the hour group ride lead by Patrick and Beau and they could not have been any friendlier or knowledgeable about the surroundings, the horses, and the ranch in general. They were so much fun to talk with and had tremendous patience for us and other riders who might not have known too much about riding.

The ranch was beautiful, all the horses were well mannered, the petting zoo area was adorable for children and adults, and the entire staff was incredible.

We will definitely be making this a staple stop whenever we return to Scottsdale in the future.

Cowboy hats off to Patrick and Beau!!

We stumbled upon this spot and absolutely loved it! Wish we would have stopped by earlier in our trip.
We appreciated that it’s free to enter, and you only pay for specific activities (horseback riding, stage coach ride, etc.). Our 3yr old and 1yr old liked petting the horses and other animals in the ‘petting zoo’ area. We brought our own lunch so ate at one of the picnic areas, and the kids played in the kiddie area which had a sand box, random toys, small ‘rock climbing’ area, connect-four game, and jumbo jenga. It was a very relaxing, outdoor atmosphere.

We (two adults and two kids) went for a 1.5 hour horseback ride group tour. There was only one other person on our tour at that time, so it felt like a private ride. Our tour guide was Ally and she was very informative about the ranch and desert and also very personable. The lead guide kept us all on pace and then there was another rider from the ranch bringing up the rear of the group. So although nothing went wrong, they seem to have plenty of staff to handle anything that may have come up on the ride. We were lucky enough to get a beautiful sunset. Ally also helped out and took out photos along the ride. This was my husband and two kids (16 & 13) first time riding. They all got very calm and appropriate horses to ride. They all liked it enough that they’d like to go horseback riding again sometime soon. It was very relaxing to to ride such nice and beautiful horses. Great time has by all.

8 of us went out horseback riding and it was great. Most of us out first time and no issues at all. The people there are really nice and make it easy to get on and off the horses. There are some big ones for larger people so no issues there. We also did the dinner which was great. I didn't have high expectations for it but the streak was really good, so was the potatoes and the cole slaw. If anyone is having any anxiety about this horseback ride you shouldn't. It was easy, the horses know what they are doing and they make it so easy.

We loved the sunset hayride and cowboy cookout. The food was great and there was a guy/cowboy who played guitar and sang after the hay ride. The barn was lit up with string lights and multiple firepits. It was an idyllic evening in the wilds. Go a bit early and you can pet the animals in the petting zoo and walk around (small haybale maze, play areas for really little kids, pet horses).

We are here on a mother/daughter trip from the Midwest. We picked MacDonald’s Ranch based on their reviews and could not have been happier with our sunset trip! Two of us have done a similar trip before, but the other two hadn’t been on a horse in years. The owners not only set us all up with appropriate rides, but really took some time to get to know us. Very personalized. Then, the one that made the trip even better? Kyle, one of our guides! His charming personality, good looks and attention to safety made this experience go from an already fun trip to an exceptional memory - minus his lack of holding a tune:). We will return for this fun on a future trip.
