We booked the trip over a year ago. From the inception we had planned to hike down to the River, camp a few nights, and hike out on a different trail. However, things changed at the Canyon and our permits were not approved for the initial itinerary. Fortunately for us, Discovery Treks is a first class company and their promptness and transparency shined through and was greatly appreciated. Multiple phone calls and conversations took place and the team at Discovery Treks ensured us that there was nothing to fear and we would still have a GREAT experience despite the minor set backs. Boy were they correct.
Once we arrived in Phoenix/Scottsdale our experience with Discovery Treks only got better. After a day of walking around Scottsdale and enjoying a fun lunch at Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers (highly recommended,) we met our guide Megan at the orientation location. In the business of being a trail guide, and really any other endeavor for that matter, building relationships and earning the trust of your client is vital to a successful experience for both parties. Megan’s passion for the Grand Canyon and knowledge of the outdoors was on full display from the initial meeting. Any apprehension or anxiety that my wife and I may have had for our three day trek into the unknown was mitigated by the bright smile and infectious positive nature of our tour guide, Ms. Megan. She was informative and diligent as she explained the process of packing our bags and even recognized that my wife’s wasn’t quite the right size. She made a special trip back to the office to get the correct pack, and delivered it to the hotel later that evening. This was just the beginning of our guide going above and beyond to ensure that our trip was first class and completely unforgettable.
On our descent to the most magical place on earth, screw Disney World, Megan once again proved her expertise in regards to the Grand Canyon, and made our 7.5 mile haul fun and adventurous, while also delivering an informative feel that we were not expecting. Moreover, when we finally completed the trek to our destination at Phantom Ranch, that is where Megan’s dedication to the success of our trip was on full display. As she was preparing our first dinner, Mother Nature decided to bring a monsoon to the party. Megan could have easily taken shelter in her tent and deliver the news that we would be eating protein bars and whatever snacks we had available to us.
