South Mountain offers trails of different lengths & difficulties that can be accessed from several points. Sometimes the main lot can get congested so check out other options. We always enjoy the time we spend there, whether a few hours or just a couple. It's great to see the city and the valley from the trails.

Not so much a 'hike' but a really nice, steady incline walk (on the way up anyway) that will get your heart rate up and have you spending a really nice 2+ hours in the sunshine. It's an easy trail to follow, lots of people and dogs (on-leash), which I liked because I was hiking alone, and what I consider... More

A ten minute drive from the airport usually doesn't usually provide a remote escape from a city. South Mountain provides dramatic vistas of Phoenix as well as the entire Sun Valley. A well paved road brings you to the summit and provides an overview of the area second to none. A good place to start or end a visit to... More

South Mountain has been a favorite hiking place for us on our three trips and most recently, the city has re-opened the environmental center and the trail markings are much improved. It's right on baseline road, yet in a few moments, you can hike into wonderful wilderness. The hikes vary from quite easy to more extreme. So accessible and so... More

Take time to go to this place it has amazing views. Drive is a climber for maybe a couple thousand feet but it's a gradual climb it is a winding road but once at the top it is fantastic. Our trip there was on a clear day and we could see for miles.

I was embarressed to be a Canadian. This was no picnic! A few tents, a singer, a few classic cars. That's it. No thought and very little effort put into this event. where were the flags, the maple leafs. Why wasn't Tourism Phx there? Why don't you profile the provinces by having Tourism Canada there? I would have thought for... More

Very easy to get to through downtown Phoenix. Plenty of trails and places to stop. A bit of drive to top. Saw many bikers on the road.
