About
Cowtown Range is a very unique training and shooting facility due to our picturesque, natural high desert setting and mountainous topography. The Cowtown Range property has numerous hills, cliffs and valleys and is situated a few miles south of Lake Pleasant dam adjacent to the Agua Fria River bed and surrounded by State and County lands. The terrain is a mixture of washes, open spaces and hills which is ideal for long-range precision shooting, camouflage, tracking, K-9 exercises, and advanced night vision exercises. None of these training missions are feasible on traditional flat shooting ranges. We also have numerous short range bays perfect for the whole family. Short bay targetry is not provided by the range. Shooters are responsible for their own ear and eye protection, which is required at all times while on the range.

Excellent facility, perfect for training. This isn't the typical "public" range where you don't know anything about the person who is shooting right next to you. Booking your own range is awesome, you control the pace and training, and it is just you and your group. They have pistol & carbine size ranges up to long range shooting platforms that reach out a thousand yards. It's beautiful out there and in the evenings you can often hear and see the wild Burro's walking to their bedding sites, It's a great place to bring a lunch and train your butt off. Their night time steel match runs pretty late and is no where near as rushed as the other ranges. Both John and Glenn are really nice guys and answer any questions with out that bossy "Range Officer" attitude. This is absolutely the best place to take your family or friends for a day of training from pistol to long range rifle. You aren't interrupted, you stop and start on your own schedule. It's only a few miles past Ben Avery but if you don't want crowds and want to train for real world shooting, it's well worth the couple extra minutes in the car.

In my opinion Cowtown is the premier shooting facility in the state of Arizona. No matter what your interests are in the world of shooting, Cowtown's pistol bays, long range platforms, zeroing range and training are top notch. Very good environment.

This attraction should be avoided if you are not an experienced player with a custom gun. The staff, even though they are adults, seem to be disinterested in a group's enjoyment and more interested in playing the game themselves. They will take part in the game, too, with custom guns and a group of about six young teenagers, also with custom guns. Their objective doesn't seem to be for the customer's enjoyment. They seem to be there for their own satisfaction and don't really care about the customer. The staff is also somewhat non-verbal and sullen, however they will take your money. So don't expect a big welcome. It would not seem to be a good idea to take families with young children or teens, or youth groups from church or scouts to this venue. We will not return.

Was traveling through with my sister. We had been wanting to do some horseback trail riding out west and Cowtown Range turned out to be a great experience for us. The scenery was breathtaking and enjoyable as our guide gave us fun facts about the different cacti and wildlife in the area. Our guide was friendly and had a good sense of humor, which made for an enjoyable time. We have an uncle who lives in Scottsdale and would come again sometime when passing through.

This was a fun place for a trail ride however there wasn’t much else to do out there if you were just going for a trail ride. They had gun ranges and paintball but we didn’t do those. The horses were great, kid friendly.

My 14 year-old son and I booked the Long Range Sniper experience and TOMCAR Mobile Shooting experience. We were fortunate to have Range Manager, Glen Stilson, as our instructor for the experiences. Glen also is the Head Instructor at Independence Training and provides patient and clear instruction on safety, use of the sniper rifle, target acquisition and the general physics behind the use of the equipment for maximum opportunity to hit the targets. The sniper rifle was a Winchester Remington Model 700 MAGPUL (if I recall correctly) shooting .308 caliber ammunition. You have 20 shots to shoot at targets that are located at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 770 and 1,000 yards in a canyon. Glen's instructions were so good that my son hit each of the targets on his first shots, except for the 1,000 yard target, which took three. The TOMCAR experience was a blast bumping done the canyon and firing a SAW M249 at targets. This was a fun and informative 3-hour experience that we would definitely do again.
