Our guides - the intrepid Will, Kendall, and Molly - were the highlight of the trip. They answered all our questions, told some fantastic stories, and had at least 1, maybe 2 funny jokes. The food tasted like it was prepared in a fine French dining restaurant...I've actually never been to one of those so take that with a grain of salt but it was delicious. Ditch the tent and sleep out under the stars!

Thanks for the review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your trip with Will, Kendall and Molly. Great point about sleeping under the stars rather than using the tent! We still recommend bringing a tent for that occasional rain storm in the desert.

This is a two part review..
Part 1- the actual rafting was outstanding. Our guide was knowledgeable of the rapids and consistently inquired if we wanted to “hit” the rapids or “cruise “ through the rapids…. they provided ample fluids and snacks along with a lunch break. Would highly recommend this outfit for a wonderful River raft trip…
Part 2: the return trip back to our off loading area was another story. What should have been a 2 hour return trip took 6 hours…. Bus broke down which left us standing in 90 degree heat for 3 hours—after multiple bus changes and stops we reach our off loading area.
The company did reach out within 24 hours to give a 30% refund on the original cost. I would give them a 5 star rating if the buses were better maintained….

Thanks for sharing about your experience. We were disappointed that you had bus issues on your trip. As you saw on your trip, the "road" to the put-in is basically a graded stream bed which is extremely hard on vehicles. The dirt road at the end of the day is better maintained but still rough. Unfortunately, while the mechanics and support staff do the best that they can, every year there are trips that experience vehicle issues.

I had the trip of a lifetime visiting the Upper Grand Canyon (7 days) with Oars in July 2022. I cannot stress enough the beauty, isolation, sense of wonder and excitement, excellence in staff, and ease of booking of this trip. This will be forever in your memories, so go ahead and go to the Grand Canyon!

I highly recommend Rivers & Oceans as they helped me assess different booking options, provided timely and relevant information, and were always available by email and phone. They know the river very well and had good suggestions. Due to a time crunch I was able to assess the options and complete the booking in less than 5 business days; Rivers and Oceans was key in helping me doing so. Their customer service is probably in the top 5% percentile out there. Let them guide you through the process and trust their judgement, as they have good experience in the Canyon.

We booked the 1 day rafting tour at the Grand Canyon with the helicopter ride and skywalk at the end of the tour. The rafting tour was lots of fun and our tour guide was very knowledgeable.
The helicopter ride to the skywalk is short but still cool. However, when we got to the skywalk, our driver told us we had 45 minutes and instructed us to stay in the line. The line was pretty long and took us 30 minutes, when it was finally our turn to enter the skywalk the workers at the skywalk told us we did NOT have to stay in line since we had the yellow bracelet and already paid for it. We just spent 15 minutes at the skywalk before our driver started rushing us to go back because the time was up.
Because of our drivers lack of knowledge, we did not have much time at the skywalk… we were not happy about it!

Thanks for the feedback, we are bummed that you did not get to spend more time on the Skywalk. Since your posting we have talked with you about the issue with this driver and reached out to the Hualapai River Runners operations manager to share your feedback. She told us she would be contacting you to rectify the situation. We will continue working with you and the Hualapai until there is a resolution satisfying to all parties..

My 12 year old son and I experienced just an amazing time with the two day/one night river rafting trip on the Colorado river. The guides were very knowledgeable not only about rafting/camping, but also the geological and cultural history of this part of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Not only was it jaw-droppingly beautiful, but it was also culturally and historically enlightening. Thank you for the Hualapai tribe for sharing their home with us!

We loved and hated it all in one day. Day started off with only 1 bus driver showing up so we had to wait around. Then when we got to river we had to wait forever for them to get the boats ready. The first part of the trip up until lunch was amazing. Lots of amazing rapids. Tour guide was fun and knowledgeable. After lunch we noticed that our motor was making weird noises. Tour guide worked on in several times until it finally died. We were stranded for over an hour waiting for the boats behind us to catch up. It shouldn’t have taken that long, but 2 other boats motors had died and where being towed. The company gives the guides no phones or walkie-talkies to communicate or radio for help. We finally got a tow from another boat but it had a weak motor so we were going super slow. We did not arrive back to the lodge until after 10:00pm! (We had to checkin that morning at 7am) The bus driver stated that this was the 3rd day in a row this had happen. So buyer beware!

Hi Amanda, I believe we spoke on the phone a couple of times since you wrote this review. You seemed quite satisfied with how we resolved the situation. As we discussed the Hualapai River Runners are currently in a challenging situation. Manufactures currently have 90+ day delay in delivering new motors due to supply issues. These same supply issues are making maintenance on the motors difficult. The Hualapai have also decreased the capacity of their trips and are currently focused on trying to not have to cancel anyone's trip. We and the Hualapai River Runners refunded half of your money for your trip as we all agreed that getting back at 10 pm made for an extremely long day. Aaron

I was with a group that just finished a 7-day whitewater river trip and all walked away with a renewed love for the Grand Canyon and its colorful history.

The guides (Reilly, Walter, Matt and Brad) were all amazing! They made us feel safe and explained every mile of the trip. They told great stories of the canyon’s past colorful explorers, and fed us well (a bit too well as I gained a few lbs)! I highly recommend this trip!!

Took the rafting trip for a girls weekend. Helicopter was not an option due to Covid which was fine. Overall was a good experience and would recommend.

Pros: Guide was good and polite, first half of the day rapids and hiking were fun and the scenery was breathtaking. It did the job.

Cons: The Market at the starting point that they mention in the brochure that you could grab breakfast wasn’t very good. No “real” breakfast options (just gas station type snacks) and they closed the bathrooms so you only could use port o johns outside. The one hour school bus ride down to start point was very rough and bumpy.
The second half of the day after lunch was too long and hot. It’s basically a hot flat water ride for 3 hours. Could have been about 2 hours shorter and we would have been happy.
The guide was very kind and polite. However the big piece that felt missing was there was no educational “talk” about the history, geography, geology etc of what we were seeing. He could answer our questions but would have liked to know more about the area.
Lastly the 2.5 hour bus ride back was really hot. The bus air conditioning wasn’t working well. Could not hear the driver either. He could really use a mic.

Kelli, We are happy to here you enjoyed the rapids, hiking and scenery of the first half of your trip. Thanks for mentioning the lack of breakfast options and the limited bathroom facilities. We will address that in our literature until the lodge is reopened ( it is currently closed indefinitely due to COVID). We will also pass along your request for more interpretive talks to the guides. Cheers! Aaron

My daughters and I had the most amazing time on our raft trip in the Grand Canyon. The sites were gorgeous, the rapids were exciting and the guides were incredible! Our guide, Walker, took us safety and adventurously through many rapids and kept us all in the raft! Camping in the canyon was incredible - a star lite sky at night followed by the glow of an almost full moon..... The guides kept us fed well and provided us with lots of geology and history of the areas we rafted through. You could tell they really loved their jobs!
