We took a break from gambling in Las Vegas decided to go on a day trip to oatman the ride their is very interesting if you get their by way of kingman route66 is a very narrow winding road up through the hills ,scenery is beautiful but the road is narrow with no guard rails and it goes straight down no room for errors would recommend going in from way of bullhead city but once you get their town is very cool lots of of fun little shops to wander through prices reasonable , biggest ice cream cones you’ll ever find for 4.00 Wild donkeys everywhere just a fun little town to explore! Highly recommend this stop.

My hasband and i loved Old town! There was so much mining history, shops, local culture and all the shop owners were super friendly and so willing to share all the lo al ulture. The donkeys were so amazing. Got to feed them. No carrots though as the town folk say the donkeys get to aggressi e. So they offer other treats to feed them
What a great day it was

While staying in Laughlin, we decided to spend a few hours exploring historic Oatman, Arizona about a 1\2 hour drive away. We used our GPS at first, but after being given a few seemingly odd GPS route suggestions, we went 'retro' and simply drove through Bullhead City and followed the highway signs, imagine lol!

On the way into Oatman, you'll see many desert bushes adorned with Christmas decorations - apparently leftovers from an annual decorating contest run by the local C of C. They're supposed to be removed by the participants each year after the judging, but many obviously aren't and now it's become the thing to do! Not too trashy and some decorations are quite well done!

As others have said, Oatman has tons of history that's immediately evident as you approach the town given the abandoned mines and infrastructure. Once in Oatman, if it appears busy, it's easiest just to park in the first free 'scramble' public parking area at the entrance to town, everything is a short walk from there anyways and the public washrooms are nearby, as well.

Besides the 'wild' burros that are immediately evident and a favorite attraction, the Main Street (historic Route 66) with its wooden walkways and funky collection of memorabilia shops and restaurants is worth exploring. Much of the memorabilia revolves around Route 66 with books, maps, mementos - pretty interesting if you take the time actually. Also, highlighted in many shops is Oatman's rich mining history, rock hounds would find it interesting no doubt! Even if you decide not to have lunch at the historic hotel, poke your head in the door and be amazed by the collection of thousands of autographed dollar bills stapled everywhere!

Overall, we'll likely make the trip out to Oatman again on a future visit to Laughlin and would plan it better to have lunch there if the crowds permit!

I have been to tourist traps. I have been to ghost towns. I have been to ghost towns that are tourist traps. I have never been to such a hole as Oatman. The boardwalks are crammed with cheap imported tourist tat. You have to literally push your way through the t-shirts hanging from the awnings. The buildings have been repainted in garish, kitschy, faux-western colors and designs. On our way in, we saw a house sporting a Confederate flag. A sign proclaims the residents' right to carry weapons, so beware.

Despite what they tell you, in 1952 Route 66 was re-routed through Yucca in order to avoid the 8 miles of sheer hell that is the road from Kingman through Sitgreaves Pass, so no, no one pulled trailers over that road. I grew up driving mountain roads in the Rocky Mountains. I was in tears by the time we reached Oatman. The only thing that kept me from driving off the side to put an end to it all was the thought of our two cats waiting for us at home.

We'd heard so much about it that we were sure that we'd be sorry if we didn't make the side trip from Kingman. Now we're sorry that we did and missed the Route 66 Museum in Kingman.

lame gunfight(sincere but boring), stale candied almonds at fudge shop, overpriced food at tired restaurants). The whole town seems exhausted as if the merchants are just going through the motions. We were underwhelmed and didn't stay long. No one seems to be trying very hard from what we saw.

This is a quaint lil town, with plenty of gift shops, and donkeys. I only wish they had left it an old dirt road and no car parking, it would have felt more earlier times..

Great service. We were looking for a tank top type shirt saying Oatman with a donkey on it. Woman working there went out of her way to help us. She made one for me and my granddaughter and the price was right two for 20. Only took minutes. Also bought an Oatman cozy

Oatman is an old gold mining town. A tourist attraction now but for a ghost town, is in good shape like Tombstone. Fun to walk the street and see and feed the burros just walking around. Note:! If you are taking your pets (dogs) be sure and pick them up around the burros. The burros think they smell like coyotes and will kill them.
They have gunfights on the weekends with the contributions going to Shriners hospital.
Friendly town and shop owners and a movie set for How The West Was Won. Great visit and plan to go back.
