Best one-stop shop for chocolates and other delicacies in Ushuaia (very friendly too!)
Jan 2016
Great chocolate, as a previous reviewer said, perhaps not as good as the best in Europe, but certainly as good or better than any I've tried in Ushuaia or Bariloche. They also make their own lemon cookies which are great. If you want chocolates while in Ushuaia, this is the go-to place for that! They also sell other products not made by them, such as dulce de leche liquor, the ubiquitous Beagle Ales, and various preserves and jams, so it's a good one-stop shop for gifts from Ushuaia. The owner of the shop is also about the friendliest person I encountered in Ushuaia! Really makes you feel welcomed, gave me a lemon cookie free when I asked if they sold them individually (they don't, but I bought 3 boxes finally!). They don't have hot chocolate to drink there, though (go to Laguna Negra for that) as Honecker is just a store, not a café. Whatever you do, do NOT go to Chocolates Edelweiss on Piedrabuena. Not only do they have the most surly unpleasant woman attending to customers, who looked like she hated to be there, but they CHEAT YOU on the weighing, by including the entire box and lid in the weighing (not a thin sheet of paper or a plastic bag, as is typical), without taring the scale first. That is a good 20% of the total weight. I actually pointed that out and she shrugged and that that's how they do it and she didn't care that it was illegal or thievery. Edelweiss was recommend to me as "being cheaper" -- now you know why it APPEARS cheaper--Edelweiss is overcharging you 20%. Stick with Honecker for chocolates and Laguna Negra for hot chocolate! (As an aside, when I asked the friendly Honecker owner upon entering if they included the box in the weight, she looked shocked and said, "Of course not, that would be robbery!" and was even more shocked when I told her there was another store that did that.)

Definitely try the chocolate shop

While wandering around the town of Ushuaia it's definitely worth a visit to the chocolate shop. You can sample so many different chocolate flavour combinations, take some home to family and friends, and compare them with other chocolates from around the world. It's all a very yummy experience.

Chocolate is very good, not great service
I'm a chocolate lover who had been in Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina for a few weeks and found this to be the best chocolate store I visited among these countries (hadn't visited any in Buenos Aires though). I wouldn't put it on par with some places in Europe, but it was worth the high cost. That said, I rate the store as slightly lower as I felt a bit unwelcome there. Not sure exactly why, but it seemed like they were rushing me and not very helpful when I asked questions about items I was unfamiliar with. Note that they also don't serve hot chocolate which would have been a nice bonus.

Gifts for your loved ones
Forget about useless souvenirs, the best way to say "I love you" is with chocolate! There are great alfajores and bocaditos (chocolate cones filled with dulce de leche), and some good artisanal chocolate bars with regional fillings (like calafate berry). Also sauces and salsas. Aproved!!
