The museum is conveniently located on the main street of town. We were initially attracted to the museum's building by a woman singing opera from the second floor balcony. Also, the building's exterior is decorated with several sea-related statues. Inside the museum, history of the area and the native peoples is presented chronologically using settings and an audioguide. The exhibits are on 2 floors of the building. We actually thought the entire museum was better than we expected.

This museum is a must see in Ushuaia. It covers the entire timeline from the native population, the discovery by Europeans, the establishment of the Anglican mission, Charles Darwin visit all the way to present days. Free audio-guide is excellent. It is also great for children

Great museum with lifelike figures that walk you through the history of this area and includes recent luminaries like Shackleton and Darwin. There is audio in your language and it includes instructions on how to become part of the dioramas. I can't emphasize enough how impressive the figures are; you feel you could interact with them they are so lifelike.

Cost is reasonable for all you get, including the audio guide. Our "guide" had a great British accent.

In the rear of the building is a whimsical extension of the museum. It is actually a free taste of what is inside the building. Adjacent gift shop has some interesting souvenirs that tie to the area's history, especially of prisoners.

Price 180 pesos including audio guide. 36 dioramas over 2 floors giving the history of the indigenous peoples, exploration, the prison and the development of the town. You are able to stand in many of the dioramas for a photo. The figures are well made, you can see effort has been made to get historical details and appearances right, and it was an informative and enjoyable hour or so. Like some other reviewers my headphones didn't work well, but they changed them straightaway and the new set were fine. There is a rather tongue in cheek Garden with more figures behind the gift shop, and the front of the building is also fun, we had the added bonus of a lady singing classical music from the balcony as we left. Enjoyed this museum much more than the prison, because of the effort that has gone into making something visually appealing and up to date.

Quaint bar and restaurant decorated in yesteryear memorabilia. A look out the window and you overlook the prisoner museum.
The life is decorated like a prison cell. Great cold beer.

Extensive and dramatic displays of the hash history of this area. Most displays were well done and were set up in abandon prison cells. the upper floor was left as is so you get the sense of being imprison in a bitter cold cell.

Ushuaia has beautiful landscapes, after all, it is the end of the world....but how did people live here?
In this beautiful thematic gallery you get a quick glimpse of the native tribes that lived here and the first conquerors. Did you know Darwin was here? Also, tribe people had amazing/crazy/secret rituals ....definitely a must see! It's like the movie "night at the museum" and you can take fun pictures!

Excellent new museum in downtown, free audio guide included. Fun to "get into" scenes. Very realistic figures and scenes. Good restaurant with great view upstairs. Choose this place over prison museum.

This place was so awesome. The free audio guide made the museum very fun and exciting! The wax figures are detailed and are interesting. You can get into the scenes making it entertaining for the kids. Gift shop had good prices. Outside area perfect for pictures. I would add a little more on the prisons. Restaurant had delicious food.😁 A little pricey, but the actual museum has a good price.

very informative and should be a 'must see' on your visit to Ushuaia. The story of the area is wonderfully portrayed over 3 floors in several languages via head sets.
