Last November I have booked a day trip to Torres del Paine Park(2 pax), this was paid in August by me but they had a cheaper price in Oct and Nov at their site(a promotion they said). Of course I have applied for the new price which one I thought I was entitled to. First they did not want to do it but finally the manager himself gave his green light to do it. This was before the trip, which one I must it was good, we enjoyed it the Comapa tour. After our trip, the refund problems started, first they sent me a proof of payment in Dec 4th, which one would take 15 to 20 days(!)to get into my bankaccount. I have waited until this period was finished and went to my bank, there they informed me that there was no money in my bankaccount and the proof they have sent me did not proof anything. I have been 3 times at my bank and as my payment was made with a credit card which did not exist anymore because of fraude , my money -USD 40- would never get my bankaccount. Again back to Comapa, new false promises, insist with your bank as the money is paid by us.Conclusion of this story is that after 2 months of promises and 3 times at my bank for nothing, they were not able to tell me what happened with the money or the date of payment.as I have asked for an history of it. It is obvious to me they did not make any refund and in this case was only a ridiculous amount involved, the question is what will happen with higher amounts when you have a claim? Good service of the Comapa tour but horrible one with its administrative duties.

You can buy tickets for this day tour at the Comapa office in Punta Arenas or right at the ferry terminal on the day when you want to take the trip. In peak season I would recommend buying it beforehand. The boat is a ferry with one part that is closed and heated with seats like in a train. Make sure to get in front of the line to get a window seat. Coffee, cocoa and snacks are available for purchase (tourist prices). The boat tour itself was a little less than I had expected (thought one would see more of the land/ surroundings but the straight was much broader than I had thought. Great explanations about the penguins though both in English and Spanish. Bring sea sickness pills if you suffer from it as the boat ride can be quite bumpy. The boat tour takes 2h each way, while being 1h on the island. Really good value for money and I loved the trip!

In the pretty Valle Hermosa some 24 km from Ushuaia you can see beavers quite close up in the wild. We booked the tour through Comapa Tourismo and eight of us joined five more in the valley for a walk through the valley to the beavers. The tour took 2.5 - 3.0 hours and was followed by a delicious meal of grilled salmon or steak, plus creme caramel for desert. The guide's English is a bit limited but with a number of very pleasant and helpful tourists from Mexico and Uraguay in the party to provide assistance we got by. The main attraction of course is the beavers and we had great opportunity and vantage points to view them and their constructions. We were picked up at our hotel at 6pm and returned at 11.30; 5 1/2 hours including a great dinner for 340 pesos each we thought was great value. A truly different experience for those unfamiliar with these animals.

We booked a bus ticket with Comapa from Ushuaia to Puerto Natales, ensuring us that the first bus to Punta Arenas would connect to the one to Puerto Natales. But border checks took long and there was no connection. So there we were, 10 tourists altogether, stranded at night with expensive accommodation booked and paid for in Puerto Natales, but no transportation. Nor Comapa, nor the bus company (Bus Sur) did anything for us. No offer to take us to a hotel (that was on a personal initiative by a van driver), nor to compensate us for booked accommodation. If we had known before there was no guarantee, we wouldn't have booked a night's accommodation. And we would have directly booked with the bus company to Punta Arenas. Of course we went to Comapa the next day and they said they'd look into it and get back to us. Since then, I have sent them 3 emails, but no reply. Bad information, bad service, bad customer care. Go with another!
