I was able to arrange the excursion over the internet before arriving for a one night stop on a cruise ship. Mickey and his son picked me up at the pier in their fully rigged pick-up truck for the trip to the lake. To get there, we had to drive up and over the Andes, which made for some interesting sights. At the top of the pass, they gave me the option of hiking part way. I said yes, so they dropped me off at the top of the old horse trail, handed me a walkie-talkie and told me it would take me 40 minutes to walk down to the lake, where he would meet me with the boat. It is a steep, scrabble trail through some the beautiful forest with some great views of the peaks around and the lake far below. Highly recommended, though one should be reasonably fit. Mickey met me at the bottom with the boat and we headed to the other side of the lake, where we fished the shore among some of the fallen timber. We fished with a heavy test line and large streamer flies with little initial success, then moved to some new spots and pulled in two massive brook trout, one a pregnant female with a beautiful pink belly. I am used to fishing streams and not making longer casts from a boat, so Mickey gave me some tips on how to do the double haul to get the additional distance. it was an idyllic scene, with the shore reflected in the lake water with no sign of human activity whatsoever. All those long casts built up quite an appetite, so we landed on a patch of shore and hiked back into the forest to a small cabin where his son already had a full blow BBQ going. Classic Argentinian, with sausage, beef, grilled vegetables and a bottle of red wine. More fishing in the afternoon and then a nice return drive. A great way to spend a day off the cramped quarters of a cruise ship.

Fished the afternoon shift with little result but at the last minute, a 3kg brownie jumped on my fly. We then went for dinner....after releasing the fish! On top of it all, We had a last minute flight change and Mickie was more than accomodating... A good and patient guide!

Mickey does a really great job. He knows Ushuaia inside and out, and is very knowledgable as he take you around. He is extremely professional, and superbly prepared. As an Argentinian who spent a few years Colorado before moving down in Ushuaia over 15 years ago, Mickey speaks perfect English and understands exactly what his clients are looking for. The lake for fishing is beautiful - quiet and serene. There is nobody else around, no groups, no other tours, nobody else fishing. It's very private. His boats are in mint condition, and he knows exactly where to go and when. It was fun to hike down the mountain (an easy walk) while Mickey got the boat, and met us on the shore of the lake. Lunch at his cabin was wonderful. Excellent BBQ beef and pork, with wine (malbec, of course). Couldn't ask for a better day in the wilderness.

Great service provided by Mickey. Speaks great English, knowledgable about the surrounding nature. Explained well all the details to my 70 years old father, who never went to fishing. It was a lot of fun, even we did not catch any fishe due to a too good weather. All prepared well, including a lunch in cottage on the other side of the lake.

We did a day fishing trip with Mickey. Even prior to arriving to Ushuaia, I was so impressed with his professionalism when organizing and confirming the trip. He was also available to give other tips and suggestions for our trip that were not part of his fishing trip. On the day of the fishing,he picked us up on time at the hotel and we drove through the beautiful mountains of Ushuaia to Lago Escondido. The trip is very flexible, which worked great for us. We are not much of a fishermen and didn't catch any fish. It was an unusually warm calm day, which apparently isn't so good for fishing. But it was great for us :), as it was warm and sunny, and we had lots of fun on the boat - relaxing and trying to catch something. After that we stopped at the cabin in the forest and had delicious asado and wine. The trip was full of good energy and laughter. Thank you Mickey!!! I would recommend it to all my friends.
