About
Welcome to the ALAKUSH VISITORS CENTER at Tierra del Fuego National Park. Visit the Ethnic Exhibition, which brings us through photographs, videos, models and explanations to the aboriginal cultures of Tierra del Fuego, the Shelk'nam and yaganes. In a natural scenario with unmatched vistas, you will enjoy tasting our specialties. Both our fast and traditional services include a wide variety of starters, main courses and delicious home-made patisserie you can take with hot Fuegian chocolate and home-made jam prepared with regional fruit. We also offer you a wide range of national wines and Patagonic liqueurs. In our shops, you will have a chance to appreciate and buy an important variety of regional products, souvenirs and books about the history of Tierra del Fuego – any of them an unforgettable keepsake of your stay at THE END OF THE WORLD.

A river runs through it (almost)
Mar 2020
Tierra del Fuego National Park's visitors center is an impressive building on the banks of the Lapataia River. It has exhibits (on early peoples in the area), a restaurant (starters, main courses, desserts and Argentinian wines and liqueurs), restrooms and (maybe this isn't quite the end of the world after all) a gift shop.

TIPS:

* Spend some time outside. You get a great view of Lapataia River from here and the surrounding mountains.

* This visitors center is near the western end of popular Senda Costera hiking trail (see my review, "A walk on the wild side").

Visitor Center, Restaurant & Gift Shop
Feb 2020
Most of the tour buses stop here for a restroom break and snack. The restaurant here is quite large and we heard from fiends that the food was very good. Inside their is a ranger to ask questions, a walk thru information center and nice sized gift shop.

BOTTOM LINE: If there are cruise ship tours here, the gift store will be swamped with people buying t-shirts, jackets and the like. Pricing was moderate to high. It was very busy when we were here and the lines were long. The restaurant seemed to move people thru quickly. DON'T ASK. NO INTERNET HERE! (the information desk has a sign that says that clearly but everyone asks anyways). Over-all it is a nice visitor center for the park. The restrooms are very nice. MY RATING: 8/10

Enjoy a cup of coffee or chocolate and the view
Jan 2020
This is part of the National Park visit. Do stop, take your time to relax over a cup of coffee or chocolate, visit the gift shop and the exhibit (the latter, average).

Big Visitor’s Center
Dec 2019
This is the visitor’s center for Tierra del Fuego National Park. There are clean restrooms, a restaurant, exhibits, and a large gift shop. Granted the gift shop is pricey, you are supporting the maintenance & preservation of the National Park.

Interesting insight to history and wildlife

Called as part of a tour. Bar/cafe and museum.
The guide told us that they did not accept dollars or credit cards but, when we asked, they were more than happy total ur dollars. Very pleasant wine and beer as we watched the vultures and other animals outside.
Good point to break tour

A tourist trap - and you need a lot of time
Jan 2019 • Friends
It will take some time to buy something in the souvenir shop or to buy hot chocolate if cruise ships are around. So be prepared that you cannot do washroom, shopping, and food. No time to see the attraction venues like exhibitions or view points.

Nice area and views

Called in here while on a taxi trip from the Cruise terminal. Pleasant place, nice cafe, nice and clean, and toilets located here. Pretty expensive in the gift shop, better prices for local gifts in the town. Nice views of the lake nearby

Midway stop during hiking
Feb 2019 • Couples
We hiked from Ensenada Zaratiegul to Lapataia Bay. The visitors centre is after the first 8 kms on the hike and is a good place to stop for a bathroom break before heading on. There is a restaurant there, some local information and a gift shop. There is also a person in the lobby who can give you information on hiking. It is a nice clean large building.

Nice bathrooms and expensive gift shop
Jan 2018 • Couples
We took a shore excursion on our cruise which stopped here. This nice modern visitor center has good clean restrooms, a cafe and a gift shop. The gift shop was very nice but items were expensive. The town of Ushuaia has better prices. There is a pretty view of a lake outside. I did not eat at the cafe and I was not told about their history exhibit here. It is handicap assessible.

Beautiful Setting, Displays, Cafeteria and Gift Shop
Oct 2018 • Couples
I was very impressed with this Visitor Centre. It is a grand building with an awesome scenic backdrop. We arrived on a tour bus. Clean and large bathrooms. Had a lamb empanada in the cafeteria and it was very reasonably priced and very good. Gift shop had a huge variety of items, and the small musuem area was interesting. It was well worth the stop.
