Avoid this library if you are a foreigner
Jul 2015 • Solo
I often enjoy visiting the local libraries of places I visit, as they tend to be good resources on the region and have information on local events taking place. However, if you are a foreigner, I would strongly recommend against visiting this library, as I was treated rudely despite speaking fluent Spanish, albeit with a Mexican accent. Indeed, it was a very odd experience. I waited patiently in line to speak to the librarian. Then, when it was finally my turn, I asked if there was a section of books on Bariloche and the surrounding region of Patagonia. As soon as she heard my accent, her expression changed. I was told to wait at a table while she attended to other patrons. I waited ... and waited. She interacted very nicely with all of the Argentine locals, but soon enough all of them had been helped, and while I sat there waiting, she continued to ignore me at her desk. Soon enough, I realized that she had no intention of helping me, and I only stayed for the free WiFi connection. When I left after about an hour, there had still been no acknowledgement of me. It was definitely my strangest experience in Argentina and left a bitter taste in my mouth. If you want to avoid a similar experience, I would recommend skipping this place until they get a change in staff. Caveat: If you're Argentine, you should be okay.
