Mauro's a great guide, oarsman, sommelier, cook, and general all around guy. My and my buddy travelled all the way to Patagonia to spend the week with him, and we're glad we did. Mauro's knowledge of the Limay is excellent. For the best chance to get the big ones, you're going to have to get deep with heavy lines, shooting heads, sink tips, etc. I had zero familiarity with that type of bigger gear, but Mauro helped me through it. By the end I was able to shoot the line out into the deep water seams necessary to reach the big fish. My buddy caught the biggest fish, a 29" brown! Overall, the experience was great, a memory of a lifetime.

The entire family had a great day on the water. The guides worked hard to put us on fish. They spoke english well. Their equipment was high end. They were very accommodating on waiting until the day before we arrived to pick the best river to fish based on conditions. River side lunch of steak over an open fire with a bottle of wine was a nice treat.

Mauro could not have been a better guide. I fished with my father-in-law who had never fished , never mind fly fished before, I on the other hand wanted to take my skills to the next level and Mauro could not have been more professional on both counts. The drift trip included several stops of off-boat fishing. We used a number of techniques and had to deal with difficult wind conditions. The scenery was spectacular. The river itself was crystal clear , the fish were wild and not constrained by barriers. They were plentiful and put up a great fight! Mauro demonstrated amazing patience for our tangles and lost flies. We had excellent conversation throughout the day as well as extended periods of peace and quiet! I’ve hired guides all over the world and I have never enjoyed a guided trip as much as this one. Book it now!

I had the pleasure of fishing with Mauro over the New Years break and had an excellent time. He is hardworking, good boat handler and even better instructor in to the arcana of spey casting and "the wire". More importantly he had a great sense as to when to just leave me to fish. This is not great fishing for those without experience. The winds are impressive. Accurate casting very helpful if your trying to get fish on drys. But Mauro will get you in pretty close if needed and will work hard to get you impressive drifts. Lunch is streamed-sometime made by his assistant Alejandro who moved the cars/boats and grilled ojo de bife at riverside rest areas. Damn tastey! The fishing gods did not, however, smile brightly on me. This is not the best season for catching the legendary large fish that inhabit this system. Even so fish in the 15-17 inch class came came to net often enough o the first day. If you are going just to fish do more research as when the best times are.

Patagonia Drift is top notch! If you are coming to Patagonia to fly fish, you must book your trip with these guys! Mauro is not only the most professional guide in the area, by the end of the trip, he will be one of your best friends too. When I contacted Patagonia Drift, they responded quickly and in English. Mauro picked me up from my hostel and we went to Río Limay. We floated the Rincon Chico section of the Limay on a very comfortable and perfectly stable boat offering the ability to cast from the standing or seated position. The whole time I was treated with respect and careful attention. If I didn't have the right fly, they had it. If I needed more tippet, they had it. If I needed instructions on how to cast and where to cast (and I did), they gave them to me perfectly. Honestly, this was a trip I'll remember for a lifetime.
